Age 87, died Saturday evening, August 10, 2002, at Cherry Meadow-Hospice. She was born November 20, 1914, to the late Henry O. and Elizabeth (Lawall) Baumann, in Grand Chute and had been an area resident all her life. Gert had been employed by Kimberly Clark Corporation until May 1, 1946. She married Emmett J. Decker on May 25, 1946. Gert enjoyed stamp collecting, belonged to several philatelic clubs and corresponding with friends from many foreign countries, for exchanging stamps. She also enjoyed coin collecting, bowling, biking, golf and crafts. She was a charter member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church, and AARP.
Survivors include her husband, Emmett J. Decker, to whom she had been married for 56 years; five brothers and four sisters-in-law, Carl and Eileen Baumann, Appleton; Nicholas and Jean Baumann, Appleton; Raymond and Virginia Baumann, Appleton; Henry and Clara Baumann, Appleton; Claire Baumann, Appleton; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Blanche Strelka, Kimberly; Marie and Eugene Bushman, Appleton; Elizabeth Weyers, Kimberly; two sisters-in-law, Jeanette Baumann, Appleton; and Marion Baumann, Appleton: 46 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, George, in infancy, Joseph Baumann and Clement Baumann, a sister, Marie Therese, in infancy, a sister–in-law, Leona Baumann, three brothers-in-law, Eugene Weyers, Roy Bogenschutz and Richard Strelka, her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Anton and Catherine Decker, a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Martin and Helen Decker and a sister-in-law, Margaret Decker.
The funeral liturgy for Gertrude will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, August 14, 2002, at ST. BERNADETTE Catholic Church, 2331 East Lourdes Drive, with Father Harold Berryman officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 – 8 pm, Tuesday and on Wednesday at the church from 10:00 am until the time of the mass. A parish prayer and scripture service will be held at 7:00 pm, Tuesday. A memorial fund is being established.
A special thanks is extended to Father Gerald Falk and Father Harold Berryman for their visits, to Carl and Eileen Baumann for bringing communion often and to the staff of Cherry Meadows-Hospice for their special care.
