Age 71, passed away at his home on Wednesday, May 7, 2003, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Kaukauna on November 7, 1931, son of the late Julius and Linda (Wunrow) Konrad. He was a graduate of the Kaukauna High School, and served his country as a member of the United States Army. On December 21, 1954, he married the former Jean Lesselyoung in Kaukauna. Dean lived in the area until 1960 when the family moved to Forest Junction to operate a dairy farm. In 1976, he left the farm and moved to the north shore of Lake Winnebago, Eventually, the couple returned to Kaukauna. For all of these years, Dean was employed by the Chicago – Northwestern Railroad as an engineer until his retirement in 1991. His lifetime hobbies included working on a variety of automobiles as well as remodeling.
He is survived by his wife: Jean Konrad of Kaukauna; four sons: Rick (Marlene) Konrad of Brillion and their children Andy (Jenny) Konrad, Chris (Angela) Konrad, Erin Konrad, and Ashley Konrad; Scott (Karrie) Konrad of Menasha and their children Steven Konrad, Shaun Konrad, Andy Steidl, and Nicholas Steidl; Jim Konrad of Appleton and his special friend B.J. and his son Austin Konrad; and Rob Konrad of Appleton and his fiancée Brenda Coenen and their children Tyler Konrad and Halie Konrad. Dean is also survived by a grandson Chad Konrad as well as by three great-grandchildren: Jade. Kennah, and Makayla Konrad; a brother: Carl Konrad of Waukesha; a step-sister: Rachel (Clarence) Coppus. Dean is also survived by Jean’s father: Louis Lesselyoung of Kaukauna, as well as her brothers: Richard Lesselyoung of Kaukauna and his special friend Jan and Roy “Bill” (Jody) Lesselyoung of Indianapolis, and by his special friends Jerry Kuborn, Dick Niesen, and Bernie. Dean was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters Barbara Jean and Baby Jean, a brother Richard Konrad, a step-brother Bob, Jean’s mother Dorothy Lesselyoung, and a longtime family friend Gerhardt Immel.
Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 10, 2003 at IMMANUEL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, Sullivan Avenue at 6th Street in Kaukauna with Rev. Melinda Feller officiating. Inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Appleton. Friends may call directly at the church on Saturday from 1:00 PM until the hour of the service.
