David Lyle Zwicker passed away Saturday, January 23, 2021, with loved ones by his side and loyal dog Fritzy. He was born May 4, 1928, in Appleton, Wisconsin. The son of the late Dewey and Erna (Nickasch) Zwicker. Dave graduated from Appleton Senior High School and served his country joining the United States Coast Guard. On July 22, 1950, David married the love of his life, Janet Grace Peters. Together they raised six children and in 2015 celebrated 65 years of marriage.
Dave worked in the family business, Zwicker Knitting Mills, where he retired as the Director of Purchasing.
Dave and Jan loved their cottage in Door County and enjoyed lifetime memories made with family and friends. Dave lived an active social life to include; dining, Packer games, PAC shows, traveling and activities with friends and family.
Dave had an appreciation of music and a beautiful voice. He would sing to anyone who would listen especially to his wife Jan. He belonged to several clubs including; McDowell Choir, Manhattan Dance Club, the Appleton Yacht Club, Fox Valley Traffic Club, Fox Cities Racquet Club and the Zwicker Knitting Mill Retirement Club. Dave and Jan were also long time members of Faith Lutheran Church.
David will be remembered for his sense of humor and pristine yard and beautiful gardens.
Survivors include his children: and their spouses; Holly (Thomas) Kottke, Heather (Rick) Ferrari, Dewey (Deborah) Zwicker, E. David (Melissa) Zwicker, Sally (Tony) Page and Susen Zwicker; his grandchildren and spouses include; Renee (Scott) Gilson, David (Melissa) Clapp, Christopher (Diana) Clapp, Richard (Cindy) Zwicker, James (Stacy) Zwicker, Carlye (Robert) Trowbridge, Michael Ahrens, Timothy Ahrens and Daniel Lazich; his great-grandchildren include; Brian Gilson, Jacob Clapp, Rhys Zwicker, Rowan Zwicker, Audrey Zwicker, Dominick Zwicker, Evelyn Trowbridge, Jonathan Trowbridge and Midnight and Iris Coor. David is also survived by two brothers: Earl and Fred Zwicker. Other survivors include nieces, nephews and many dear long time friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Jan, his parents Dewey and Erna Zwicker, his sister-in-law Marion Zwicker and other relatives.
Special thanks to Pastor Rudy Herbich for his many years of home visits including dedicated pastoral guidance, services, continued prayers, communion and most importantly a friend and confidante for Dave.
Thanks also go to Dave’s caregivers Lisa Kappus and her daughter Amanda Wise who cared for Dave and Jan in their home and in Lisa’s personal residence. Lisa helped Dave stay independent and engaged in life. She is especially thanked for giving Dave a sense of being loved and cared for while his family lived in various states away from home.
Also expressing thanks to ThedaCare Hospice for their attention to Dave’s comfort in his last days.
Due to COVID and the various restrictions and safety measures the funeral services will be attended by immediate family only.
