Age 39, passed away Saturday, January 3, 2004 after a year-long battle with cancer. David was born in Neenah on December 1, 1964, son of Kenneth Gutowski of Appleton and the late Elaine Menting Gutowski. David grew up in Combined Locks and was the valedictorian of the Kimberly High School graduating class of 1983. He received a full scholarship to the DeVry Institute of Technology in Lombard, Illinois and graduated with honors in 1986. David worked for the 4X Corporation in Neenah, Central Computers in Appleton, and Fox Cities Communications until 1990 when he went on to become an instructor at ITT Technical Institute in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, where he taught until 1995. Later, he returned to the valley and became a part-owner of Fox Cities Communications. David recently sold the business and took a position with BayCom. He enjoyed playing his guitar, guns and firearms, fishing, and spending time with his dog, Toby.
David is survived by his father: Kenneth (Carol) Gutowski of Appleton; a sister: Joy (Tim) Padgett of Porterfield, Wisconsin; two step-sisters: Gail (Wayne) Kindschy of Neenah and their son Alfie; and Bonnie (Mike) Schattl of Appleton and their children Chris and Katie; a step-brother: Mark (Bonnie) Grundman of Wisconsin Rapids and their children Shannon, Mark, and Jimmy. David was preceded in death by his mother, Elaine in 1986.
The funeral liturgy for David will be held at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, January 7, 2004 at HOLY NAME CATHOLIC CHURCH, 600 E. Kimberly Avenue with Msgr. James Vanden Hogen officiating. Interment will be in St. Paul Catholic Cemetery in Combined Locks. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 – 8 PM and again at the church on Wednesday from 11:00 AM until the hour of the service. There will be a parish prayer and scripture service at the funeral home at 7:30 PM on Tuesday evening.
