Daniel Arthur Lehrer, age 90, passed away at his home June 14, 2023, with his family at his side. Daniel was born on October 15, 1932, to Sylvester and Marjorie (Roblee) Lehrer, the oldest of 7. Dan met the young lady who would become his soulmate through a friend. He and Marilyn Roocks married on July 2, 1955, which turned into 40 plus years together and seven children.
Dan loved to rummage sale, and more often than not couldn’t pass one by. He would always stop to buy toys and trinkets for his grandchildren. A collector by nature, he loved to go to auctions and estate sales, enjoyed collecting guns, knives, hatchets and of all things yard sticks. In his retirement years, he enjoyed planting trees on the land he purchased from his father in Ogdensburg. He named a few trees for his children, mostly to keep track of the rows.
Family and time with nature became more important to Dan as he aged. He loved to talk about the accomplishments of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed more time with his siblings in his later years, and their relationships blossomed. Time up north was special to him, and he loved to share time there. He enjoyed going on hunting trips-more to spend time with family than to actually hunt.
Dan is survived by his children: Mike (Lydia Dodson) Lehrer, Jackie (Dan) Wisdom, Steve (Chris) Lehrer, Julie (Tim) Larsen, Pat (Karen) Lehrer, Ellen (Tom) VandenHeuvel; his grandchildren: Nicole (Tim) Springstroh, Cori Lehrer, Megan (Kurt) Dix, Matt (Heather Burroughs) Larsen, Libby Larsen, Christopher (Lauren) Lehrer, Nicholas (Tori Staedt) Lehrer, Brooke Lehrer, Hayley (Alex) Kiander, Anna (J.T.) Heenan, and Morgan (Zac Rowinsky) Schreiter. He is further survived by 11 great grandchildren: Natalee, Luke, Jenna, Akeal, Akoya, Hallie (Levi), Shelby, Ben, Leo, Hadley and Layla; brothers and sisters: George (Barbara) Lehrer, Lee Lehrer, Ruth Sawall, John Lehrer, Marian Schmitz and Mark (Jackie) Lehrer and brothers and sisters-in-law: Gretchen (Mike) Mish, Tom (LaVerne) Roocks and Sally Roocks. Many nieces, nephews and good friends will also miss him. Waiting at the gates of Heaven for his arrival were his wife Marilyn, infant daughter Catherine, his parents and his parents-in-law Erwin and Ruth (Lemke) Roocks. He is further preceded in passing by his brothers and sisters in law: Jan Lehrer, Wayne Schmitz and David Roocks.
A visitation for Dan will be held Tuesday June 20, 2023, from 5:00pm until 7:00pm, at St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church, 473 7th Street, Menasha. Friends and family may gather at the church again on Wednesday June 21, 2023, for additional visitation time from 9:00am until 11:00am, a funeral service will begin at 11:00am and military honors will follow.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established.
