Daniel J. Calmes

Daniel J. Calmes, 72, passed away peacefully at Renaissance Assisted Living on Saturday, June 20, 2020, after battling pancreatic cancer for two years. Daniel was born in Appleton on March 13, 1948, to the late Willard Sr. and Viola (Salm) Calmes. He was a hard-working Mason who ran his own business, Daniel Calmes Masonry. Daniel loved to garden, work in his woods, and tend to his animals. Daniel also loved to hunt, fish, and play cards especially Cribbage and Sheepshead.

Daniel is survived by his two daughters Sara (Kris) Hoffman of Clarkston, MI and Christine Calmes of Baltimore, MD, three grandchildren Kristoffer, Molly, and Kaitlyn Hoffman, brothers Willard Jr. (Stephanie) Calmes, Victor (Lynn) Calmes, sister Mary (Tim) Quintal, nieces Holly Calmes and Fran Wayne, and nephews Cory Calmes, Sam Quintal and Will Quintal.

Daniel was preceded in death by his son Matthew Calmes, sister Kathleen Calmes, brother Nicholas Calmes and nephew Brock Calmes.

A graveside prayer service for Daniel will be held at a later date. Burial will take place in St. Joseph Cemetery, Appleton.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Daniel’s name may be sent to the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation.

We would like to thank the wonderful people who cared for Daniel at Renaissance Assisted Living, Ascension Hospital and especially Dr. Douglas Evans and nurses Gabriella, Rebecca and Beth at Froedtert Hospital. A very special thank you to Jean and Joe Talamanco for their compassionate and selfless care of Dan during his illness.
