Bogan, Daniel H.

Daniel H. Bogan, passed away on Sunday, July 16th at St. Elizabeth Hospital surrounded by family and special friends. He had been fighting a three-year battle with oral cancer. Dan was born on November 25th, 1949 to Doris May Wilson. He was a valley resident for most of his life. He was active in many sports, excelling at golf, bowling, and shooting pool. Dan married Marcee Seemann on September 18th, 1971.
He started his working career at Kools Bros, learned industrial engineering and worked at Kurz & Root, Appleton, Leach Co., Oshkosh, and Riverside Paper Co. He left the corporate world to become an independent salesperson, which he found much to his liking. He loved to sit and talk and share a joke or a story with his customers. He felt he had the job of a lifetime until the summer of 2003. A six-month sore throat just would not go away was determined to be tonsilar cancer. He endured surgery, radiation, and many types of chemotherapy but the cancer came back and refused to go away. He became active in the Oral Cancer Foundation; going to Las Vegas and West Virginia to participate in Fund Raising. He frequented the Oral Cancer Website and touched the lives of many oral cancer victims. He was always ready to offer encouragement, prayers, or a little wit and wisdom about the Packers, golf, and Wisconsin. He wants everyone to know that a sore in your mouth or throat lasting more that 14 days needs to be checked out. Be persistent!
Dan is survived by his wife of 34+ years, Marcee Bogan.
He is also survived by numerous family and friends: a son Chris, Kaukauna, and a daughter Maggie (Ben), Madison, both whom he is extremely proud of; his siblings and in-laws; Mike and Carol Bogan, Neenah; Pat and Peggy Bogan, Wausau; Ellen and Tom Taplin, Appleton; Kathy and Bruce Huelsbeck, Combined Locks; John and Kathy Bogan, Appleton; Jean and Jim Piette, Appleton; sister-in-law, Sandy Fritch, Wausau; Sharon (Seemann) and Barry Moore, Maryland; and Jeff and Sherri Seemann, Fredonia. His father and mother in law; Allyn and Genevieve Seemann, whom he lovingly cared for during the last three years of his battle with cancer; special aunts June (Charles) Hoeppner, Muriel Wilson, and Margaret “Pete” Hankowitz; and also Angie (Josephs) Byrne, a friend and honorary member of his family. 19 nieces and nephews, numerous great nieces and great nephews, and many cousins and friends survive him as well.
His brothers Peter and Allen; his mother Doris, and a very special niece, Kathleen (Katie) Bogan, preceded him in death.
Funeral services for Dan will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, July 19, 2006, at CHRIST THE KING LUTHERAN CHURCH, 601 South Washington Street, Combined Locks, with Reverend Bill Schroeder officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 pm, Tuesday and on Wednesday at the church from 10:00 am, until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established.

Dan and his family would like to send special thanks to Dr. Nancy Homburg and the staff at St. Elizabeth Hospital, 4th floor, Joy, Karen, and Cheryl to name a few, and to Affinity Hospice, as they were a godsend during the last few weeks of Dan’s life. Special thanks also to Dr. Gremminger, Monica and Wendy and all the wonderful staff at the oncology Dept. at Mercy Medical Cancer Center in Oshkosh.

I’m Free.

Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free. I’m following the path God laid for me. I took his hand when I heard him call; I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day, to laugh, to love, to work or play. Tasks left undone must stay that way; I found that place at the close of day.
If my parting has left a void, then fill it with remembered joy. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss; ah yes, these things, I too will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow; I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life’s been full, I savored much; good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief; don’t lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your heart and share with me; God wanted me now, he set me free.
