Daniel D. Kolosso, age 88, went home to his loving God on Thursday, July 5, 2007 at the Franciscan Care Center. He was born in the town of Little Wolf, near Manawa, on March 30, 1919, son of the late Daniel and Martha (Kostzrak) Kolosso, Sr., and had resided in Appleton since 1927. Daniel was united in marriage to the former Margaret Boreson on April 15, 1940 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Menasha. The couple shared sixty-seven wonderful years together. Dan was employed as a mechanic with his brothers, and later worked for Bauer Truck and Automotive Supply Company in Appleton. Around the shop, he was known as “the best mechanic” and as “the guy who could fix anything.” His family will always remember him as Mr. Fix-It. It was true – he could fix anything in need of repair, or modify it for his own unique purposes. His children will always cherish the memory of their many fishing trips to Lake Winnebago and the Little Wolf River. Dan and Margaret were always people of great faith, and the greatest of the gifts he gave his children and their families was that of his own strong Christian faith. He was a role model in that way for many, many relatives and friends.
Dan is survived by his beloved wife: Margaret Kolosso of Appleton; ten loving children: Judy (Llew) Krause of Shawano; Daniel “Butch” Kolosso of Appleton; Bette Handel of Appleton; Richard (Carol) Kolosso of Colorado; Diane (Doug) Verrier of Appleton; Mark (Teri) Kolosso of Appleton; Nancy Zuleger of Appleton; Joe (Kelly) Kolosso of Bellevue; Mary (Mark) Martin of Appleton; and Ken (Marta) Kolosso of Appleton; twenty two grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren; two sisters: Margaret Kiffe of Florida and Sr. Audrey Kolosso of Manitowoc; and a sister-in-law: Ginny Kolosso of Appleton. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Pete, Martin (Bessie), Sylvester (Marie), Robert (Stella), Vincent (Rose), Michael (Lucille), an infant brother Marcus, a sister Agnes Kolosso, and a brother-in-law Ken Kiffe.
A memorial funeral liturgy for Dan will be held at 5:30 PM on Monday, July 9, 2007 at ST. PIUS X. CATHOLIC CHURCH, 500 W. Marquette Street in Appleton, with Fr. Quinn Mann officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may greet the family directly at St. Pius Parish on Monday afternoon from 4:30 until the hour of the mass.
