Daniel Allan Sonkowsky

March 30, 1984 — May 31, 2006

SONKOWSKY, DANIEL ALLAN

Daniel Allan Sonkowsky, age 22, of Oshkosh, died on Wednesday, May 31, 2006, as the result of an automobile accident. Dan was born on March 30, 1984, in Green Bay, Wisconsin to David Sonkowsky and Lucille Montgomery. He was currently employed at SBC/AT&T as a Customer Representative.

Survivors include his parents; his brother, Aaron and his wife Denise; nephews Austin and Joshua Montgomery; his parental grandmother, Lillian Sonkowsky of Phoenix, Arizona; maternal grandparents William and Louise Montgomery of Oconto Falls, Wisconsin; many dear aunts, uncles and cousins. He is further survived by many friends (too numerous to mention) and very special satellite families. Also, two very special ladies, Ashlee and Heather. Daniel was preceded in death by his grandfather, Hilfert Sonkowsky, his older infant brother Joshua and his aunt Julie.

Dan spent his early childhood years in the Gillett-Cecil, and Menasha areas where he attended kindergarten at Jefferson Elementary School in Menasha. He moved with his father to Manitowoc where he attended Jackson School through the 6th grade, and Woodrow Wilson Junior High School for 7th and 8th grade. In Manitowoc, Daniel was involved in many activities including the Manitowoc Chiefs Youth Football for four years; Youth Baseball and Golf. Daniel lived for two years in Ripon with his uncle John, aunt Mary and cousin Karyn, due to his father’s medical problems. Upon entering high school in Ripon, Daniel continued playing football, culminating in a league championship season in 2001 playing in the WIAA Playoffs and achieving All Conference recognition from his peers.

Daniel thoroughly enjoyed shooting pool or just hanging out with his friends. He loved movies and had a distinct knack for catching bloopers, which often brought his Dad’s laughter to tears, and I am sure a few of you have many, many memories of his wit and the ability to make people smile. For example, “Did we get that guy?” He also had special enjoyment for golf which he shared with his father and very close friends, including his close friend Luke.

As those of you who knew him already know, Daniel lived life happy, lit up a room with his smile and touched all with his personality. His father and family deeply appreciate the depth of friendship he had with the many people who have expressed their condolences to us. Daniel loved you all and would want you all to carry his smile with you always. As we join to say goodbye, be comforted that we know that Daniel is with the Lord. Per Dan’s wishes, he has already helped and will continue to help others by means of organ donation.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 3, 2006, at WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME, Appleton, with Rev. Victor Hillestad officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday (TODAY) from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and again on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services.

The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the excellent staff at ThedaCare-Critical Unit. The concern from the surgical staff, the chaplain and social workers, and especially the loving care provided by the CCU nurses, we think was exceptional. In addition we would like to thank the sponsors of the Harbour House which was immensely appreciated. A memorial fund will be established at M&I Bank in Daniel’s honor.
