Dana Lee Hoerning

Dana Lee Hoerning, age 50, of Neenah, died unexpectedly riding his Harley he loved- on Saturday, August 12, 2023.  Dana was born in Appleton on June 12, 1973, son of Charles and the late Barbara Jean (Olson) Hoerning. 

Dana had an outgoing and fearless spirit. He was the life of the party and could make anyone his friend, spreading laughs and high energy wherever he went, and never acted like a 50-year-old.  At any time, he’d drop everything that he was doing to help his friends or family.  Regardless of the task, Dana was able to figure things out as he went and made certain that things were completely done the right way, his way.  Much like the pitbulls he raised, Dana had a tough exterior but a heart of gold.  His compassion for animals was endless; breeding and raising pits for over 30 years, owned cats, a snake, and even nursing baby squirrels back to health.  No matter how many times his family and friends argued with him, they were always forgiven. Dana will be remembered by all for loving fiercely and living life to its fullest, up until the very end.  Dana was a true original; a kind and loving devoted father, son, brother, and uncle.

Dana is survived by his three children: Jeremy Eslinger, Dominic Hoerning, and Kiara Hoerning; grandchildren: Hayden and Levi; father: Charles Hoerning; sisters: Rachel Brick, and Tamra Zirbel; and brothers: David (Kelly) Hoerning and Tyler (Myka) Hoerning.  He is further survived by his nieces and nephews: Hailey, Alivia, Lydia, Ella, Elijah and Everly; as well as his former spouse: Shawna Hoerning.

A celebration of life for Dana will take place at 6:00 pm on Thursday, August 24, 2023, at the Wichmann Funeral Home – Downtown, 537 N. Superior St., Appleton.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until the time of service.  Please visit www.wichmannfargo.com for the full obituary.
