Corinne Wocelka, age 82, of Appleton, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, September 15, 2014. She was born on November 23, 1931, in La Crosse, Wisconsin, to the late Ronald and Gladys (Ellis) Kaump. Corinne received her bachelor's degree in language and literature at UW – Green Bay and later earned a master's degree in library science from UW – Oshkosh. She enjoyed a 33-year career at Lawrence University amid the stacks in Seeley G. Mudd Library, starting in 1976 as a circulation assistant. She spent eight years as an acquisitions librarian and the following 24 years as director of technical services, overseeing the acquisition and procession of all new materials added to the library's collections.
She led the creation of Lawrence's on-line catalogue system that helped revolutionize the way we access information, played a leading role in modernizing the management of periodicals and was a driving force behind the creation of the Lincoln Reading Room. In addition to her excellent work in the library, Corinne was an active participant in faculty committees, especially the Honors Committee, which benefitted greatly from her high standards and attention to detail. Corinne retired in 2010 and was awarded an honorary Master of Arts degree at that year's June commencement.
True to her nature, Corinne never really “retired,” and was always involved in the many activities at Touchmark. She spent countless hours creating a beautiful library for the Touchmark community to share. She then returned to playing bridge and often reminisced about the “old times” during the happy hours she spent with her many friends at Touchmark. Corinne also loved theater (PAC), musicals, symphonies (Lawrence), and outdoor nature's daily blessings.
Corinne is survived by her children: Wendy Wocelka and Bill Wocelka; grandchildren: Christopher Guy Nelson and Jessie Elizabeth Nelson; brothers: Leon (Sandy) Kaump and Dean Kaump; niece and nephews: Debbie (Richard) Haskin, James Kaump, and Paul (Megan Paige) Kaump; along with her special pet Quincy.
The memorial service for Corinne will be held at 4:00 PM on Saturday, September 27, 2014 in the chapel at TOUCHMARK ON PROSPECT, 2601 Touchmark Drive in Appleton, with Rev. Jane Anderson officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather at Touchmark on Saturday from 2:00 PM until the time of the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Lawrence University are appreciated. Online condolences can be offered at www.wichmannfargo.com.
The family would especially like to offer special thanks to the first responders who were present near Lambeau Field on Sunday to assist Corinne in her final moments.
