Clifford R. Johnson, age 85, of Kaukauna, died Sunday morning, August 5, 2007, at Manor Care Health Services. He was born July 21, 1922, to the late Duett and Agnes (Peterson) Johnson, in Kaukauna, where he graduated from Kaukauna High School in 1940. Cliff served in the U. S. Navy for 26 months, aboard the submarine tender, Aegir. He was employed for 17 years as a machinist, mostly at Thilmany and engaged in farming for 30 years in rural Kaukauna. Cliff loved fishing, his farm, growing flowers, playing cards with his friends and was a very good story teller. He was a member of VFW Post #3319 of Kaukauna and the American Legion Post #496, Sherwood. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Shirley E. (Schlewitz) Johnson, whom he married March 21, 1953; three sons, Bruce Johnson, Waukesha; Tim (Kristi) Johnson, Berlin, WI; Brian (Penny) Johnson, Kaukauna: six grandchildren, Daniel and Aaron Johnson, Amanda and Alyssa Martaus, Alex and Arin Krass; two sisters-in-law, Jane Johnson, Kaukauna; Joyce (Jack) Fritz, Darboy and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Gary, two brothers, Donald and Allan Johnson and a sister, Ruby (Carl) Melchert. The funeral service for Clifford will be held at 5:00 pm, Thursday, August 9, 2007, at the funeral home, with Reverend Melinda L. Feller officiating. Burial will be in Appleton Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3:00 pm, Thursday, until the time of the service. A memorial fund is being established.
