Age 86, died March 19, 2002, at Cherry Meadow-Hospice, in Appleton. He was born July 29, 1915, in Appleton, Wisconsin, to the late Minnie and Anson Bauer. Cliff graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1939, and spent another four years in the United States Air Force as a meteorologist. Cliff married Mildred E. Bieritz on January 4, 1946, and enjoyed 53 wonderful years of marriage together. Cliff had been employed by American National Can for over 25 years. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church throughout his life. Cliff had many interests, with golf and rose gardening being favorites. He also spent many cherished moments with his family and friends at Sand Bay in Door County. In his earlier years, after marriage, he had a passion for refereeing high school and college football and basketball games.
He is survived by his two children and their spouses, Tim and Barbara Bauer, Appleton; Barbara and Gary Hietpas, Appleton; four grandchildren, Brian and Christopher Bauer, Erik Hietpas and his fiancée Jamie Thompson, and Katie Hietpas. Cliff was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred, his parents and sister, Virginia. Funeral services for Cliff will be held on Tuesday, March 26, 2002 at 5:00 p.m. at ZION LUTHERAN CHURCH, 912 N. Oneida Street, with Rev. Larry Matthews officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call directly at the church on Tuesday from 3 p.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established for the Hospice at Cherry Meadow. Our family finds comfort in knowing he is at peace and together again with Mom.
The family wishes to extend a sincere “THANK YOU” to Dr. Fox and staff, and to the many loving and caring staff members at Appleton Medical Center, Appleton; St. Elizabeth Sub-acute, Appleton; St. Paul Home, Kaukauna; and Theda Care Hospice-Cherry Meadow.
