Age 78, passed away on Monday, October 25. 2004 at the Cherry Meadows Hospice in Appleton. Sully was born in Milwaukee on December 4, 1925, the son of the late Clarence M. and Helen (nee Gordon) Sullivan, Sr. He attended high school in Milwaukee, and as a young man served his country in the United States Army from 1944 through 1946 as a member of the 6th Tank Battalion stationed in Europe. He was a Life Member and Past Commander of the Electric City Post #3319 of the VFW, a Life Member of the Fox Valley Aerie of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and was a Past President and twenty-year treasurer of the State Aerie of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Sully enjoyed traveling with his fellow Eagle Club members over the years, and was also an avid reader and outstanding sheephead player. On April 15, 1961, Sully married the former Victoria Kilawee at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kaukauna. Many will remember Sully’s Bar and Rooms in downtown Kaukauna, as well as having him as a well-liked letter carrier for the Kaukauna Post Office until his retirement in 1986.
Sully is survived by his wife: Victoria Sullivan of Kaukauna; a sister: Mary Helen Sullivan of Sarasota, Florida; four sisters-in-law: Margaret Kilawee of Baileys Harbor; Della Milbach of Sturgeon Bay; Lois Kilawee Bozile of Rhinelander; and Barbara Kilawee of Houston, Texas; four brothers-in-law: Richard Schaeffer of Milwaukee; Charles F. Kilawee of Kaukauna; Francis D Kilawee of Andover, Maine; and Richard A. (Patricia) Kilawee of Bancroft, Wisconsin; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Eileen Schaeffer, his first wife Anna Marie (nee McDaniel) Sullivan, brothers-in-law Fr. Ivo Kilawee, OCSO, Martin J. Kilawee, and Joseph R. Kilawee, and Bill Milbach; and sisters-in-law Patricia (Dean) Ekstrom and Sr. Terrence Kilawee, OSF.
The funeral liturgy for Sully will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, October 28, 2004 at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street in Kaukauna with Fr. Jack Mullarkey officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery where members of Electric City Post #3319 of the VFW will provide military honors. Friends may call directly at the church on Thursday from 11:00 AM until the hour of the service.
