Age 98, went home to be with our Lord on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at Rennes Health Center. Clara was born on May 24, 1909, the daughter of the late Fred J. and Martha (Kretzman) Luebke. Clara married her late husband, Norval R. Barger, Sr. on June 22, 1935. She worked for many years as a bookkeeper for the University of Wisconsin- Madison Medical School, where she lived for over 60 years. Clara loved to hook rugs. She was also a maker of quilts which she would donate to various chartable organizations. She was an avid gardener and as a result of her husband's interests, became fond of bird watching.
Clara is lovingly survived by her children: Norval “Bud” (Peggy) Barger, Jr. of Appleton, Elaine (Larry) Kercher of Anaheim, CA.; grandchildren: Jon Kercher, Donna Kercher, Laurel (Henry) Zempel, Christopher Barger, Jennifer (Rodney) Keaney, Anne (Ryan) Hodge, Mary Barger; step-grandchildren: Stephen (Jill) Miner, Katherine (Mike) Fullerton; great-grandchildren: Madeline and Lewis Zempel; sisters: Marie Loeber, Trudy (Bud) Cox; brothers: Dr. Paul (Eunice) Luebke and Dr. Fred (Norma) Luebke. Clara is preceded in death by Norma Buchan, Lydia Luebke, Waldemar Luebke and Dr. Martin Luebke.
Funeral services for Clara will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME, TRI-COUNTY CHAPEL, 3212 S. Oneida Street, Appleton, with Pastor Danny Bond officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be held at the Sunset Memory Gardens in Madison on Friday, March 28, 2008, at 11:00 a.m.
The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to all the staff at The Renaissance Assisted Living and the Rennes Health Care and Rehabilitation Center for all their love, support and care for Clara.
