Christopher Braun, age 25, passed away suddenly on Wednesday morning, April 13, 2011. Chris was born in Appleton on March 16, 1986, the son of Scott and Rene' (Derks) Braun, and was a 2004 graduate of Appleton West High School. As a young man, most everyone he met marveled at his many interests and skills. Chris loved nature, camping, animals, his dog Buddy, and his cats. One of his favorite past times was walking along the Fox River. Chris could catch any wild thing he was challenged to catch: lizards – muskrats – raccoons; but he was especially good at catching snakes. He enjoyed all kinds of music, tinkering with mechanical things, and watching scary movies. His favorite holidays were 4th of July in Minocqua and Halloween Breakfast at Grandma's. Chris was an avid reader, hung out in bookstores, and appreciated deep conversation. He loved science and chemistry, and as a young man had aspirations of being a “scientist AND a beekeeper.”
Most of all, Chris loved his family dearly. Those he leaves behind will treasure many dear memories. They include his parents: Scott and Rene' Braun of Appleton; a brother: Matthew Braun of Appleton; a sister: Sarah Braun of Appleton; maternal grandparents: Larry and Pat Derks of Schofield; paternal grandfather: Gordon Braun of Appleton. There are several aunts and uncles: Michele (John) Kuhn, Brad (Jenni) Derks, Mark (Jodi) Derks, Mike (Tammy) Braun, Eric (Kim) Braun, Hayden (Debbie) Knight, Tim (Jo Bergholte) Braun, James Braun, and Julie (Todd) Hungerford. Chris also leaves behind his best friends: Meghan Hodgson, James Cooper, and Eric Amerson, as well as many dear cousins that all share fond memories of their childhood games.
A memorial service for Chris will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 1 9, 2011 at FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 325 E. Franklin Street in Appleton, with Rev. Dr. Doyle Blanton officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, and again at the church on Tuesday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
