Christian Jan De Deker passed away on October 24, 2022, at the age of 56. Chris was born to Kenneth and Jan (De Hertog) De Deker in Appleton on October 26, 1965. Chris was the third of four boys born to the couple. He was a good kid growing up. He graduated from Appleton West High School and began work as a machine operator at Curwood soon after.
Chris enjoyed everything outdoors. Chris was a hunter from the get-go, learning the craft from his dad and older brothers and then teaching it to his own sons. They spent many a weekend in the woods hunting deer, ducks, pheasant and, according to his family, “whatever was good eating, and fun to shoot.” Chris was happiest when he was hunting and fishing, which was another passion of his and he especially enjoyed trout fishing at Hartman Creek State Park.
He was especially proud of his grandson Zane and was present the day he took his first steps. He was certain to have made hunting and fishing a part of Zane’s life.
Chris also enjoyed Tae Kwon Do and spent hours working with son Jimi as he progressed through the rankings in the state. He even came to master that skill himself, and even won medals in state competitions.
Chris was passionate about skill and quality in doing things and setting goals. “Do it right the first time” was a motto.
Chris is survived by his sons John De Deker, Jimi De Deker, brothers Greg De Deker, Mark (Cathy) De Deker and Dan (Chelsea) De Deker; and grandson Zane De Deker.
He is preceded in passing by his parents.
Arrangements for a celebration of Chris’ life are currently pending and will be shared when finalized.
