Charles L. Abbott

Age 69, passed away Saturday October 11, 2003 at the Appleton Medical Center. Chuck was born in Illinois on August 11, 1934, son of the late Ralph and Bessie (Henderson) Abbott. On December 11, 1955, he married the former Marylinn Keyser in Spring Valley, Illinois; she preceded him in death in 1996. Chuck was a graduate of Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, earning a double major in both finance and accounting. Following his graduation, he worked as an accountant for Haskins and Sells in Chicago, and then was employed as an internal auditor for Arlington Park Race Track for several years. The bulk of his career, nearly thirty years, was spent as a Financial Controller for the Kimberly Clark Corporation, where he was a member of the Quarter Century Club.

In his younger years, Chuck enjoyed playing tennis, as well as hunting, fishing, playing games and cards, and socializing with friends. He was also an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and the Wisconsin Badgers.

Survivors include three daughters: Cynthia Abbott of Raleigh, NC; Juli (Peter) Westervelt of Raleigh, NC; Lynley (Tom) Kerscher of Temecula, CA; four grandchildren: Haley and Hannah Westervelt and Abbey and Griffin Kerscher; a sister: Betty (Glenn) Ellis of Sheffield, Illinois; and a brother-in-law: Bob (Marion) Rodgers of Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marylinn, a brother Virgil Abbott and a sister Marge Rodgers.

Funeral services for Chuck will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, October 15, 2003 at the funeral home chapel with Rev. John T. McFadden officiating. Entombment will follow at Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1:00 PM until the hour of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family has arranged a memorial fund in Chuck’s name for cancer research.
