Charles J. Krejci, 84, of Appleton, passed away Monday, September 1, 2008, at his home. Charles was born August 17, 1924, in Milwaukee, the son of the late Charles J. and Anna (Lenk) Krejci. He served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. Following his military service, Charles began his career as a lithographer with Wetzel Brothers in Milwaukee. He was united in marriage to Bernice Hengst on May 27, 1950, in Milwaukee. The Krejci's moved to the Fox Valley in 1964 when Charles began working for American Can in Neenah. In 1982, they relocated to Racine, and Charles worked for the Western Publishing Company until his retirement in 1990. It was at that time when Charles and Bernice moved back to Appleton.
Charles was a parishioner at St. Bernard Catholic Church. He volunteered for the Fox Valley Emergency Shelter, and served on the Board and Selection Committee for Habitat for Humanity. Charles and Bernice enjoyed collecting various kinds of antiques. In his younger years he was an avid league bowler, and a good one too. Charles was a devoted family man, and spent many great times with his family playing mini-golf, board and card games, especially cribbage, and always enjoying a good laugh. He enjoyed much good fortune when he bought lottery tickets, raffle tickets, or entering a drawing. He was blessed with a clever and quick sense of wit, and enjoyed socializing with folks whether he was walking in the mall or at the grocery store check-out. Charles was always up on current events, reading newspapers and magazines daily. He will truly be missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his son, Charles K. (Christine) Krejci, Lake Elmo, Minn.; his two grandsons, Jason (Jennifer) Krejci, and their son, Jack, and Justin (Romana) Krejci, and their daughters, Sofia and Nina, all of Minnesota; and his sisters, Sylvia Lembach, Menomonee Falls, and Margaret (Bob) Dettmann, Germantown.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bernice, in 1993, his daughter, Charlene Krejci Paskell, in 2001, and three sisters, Anne,
Marie, and Lauretta.
The funeral mass for Charles will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, 2008, at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1617 W. Pine St., with Father Dennis Ryan as celebrant. He will be laid to rest in Appleton's St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will begin at the church Monday at 10:00 a.m. and continue until mass time at noon.
Memorials contributions in his name may be made to the Habitat for Humanity, 1800 Appleton Rd., Menasha, 54956.
