Age 84, passed away on Thursday evening, May 10, 2007 at Living Tree Estates in Greenville. Charles was born on February 10, 1923 in Oconto Falls to the late Arthur and Cora (Meyer) Kliefoth. Charlie was a 1941 graduate of Appleton High School, where he served as Student Council President, captain of the football team, and a two year starting guard on the basketball team. After high school he went on to Lawrence University where he was a member of the Varsity football team and Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He also coached Little League Baseball for many years. Charles proudly served his country with the U.S. Army during WWII, and was an accomplished boxer during his time in the service. He fought side by side with the 510th Fighter Squadron, and the 405th Fighter Group where he earned a WWII Victory Medal, European African Campaign Medal, as well as Silver and Bronze Service Stars. After his military service he was united in marriage to Lois Mae Neuman on March 30, 1946, and they shared almost 59 years until she preceded him in death on February 10, 2005. Charlie worked as an engineer for Wisconsin Telephone Company for 39 years before retiring in April, 1986. Upon retirement Charlie attended classes at the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh, where he earned his BS in 1990. He was member of First English Lutheran Church, and the Fraternal Brotherhood of the Elks.
He will be sadly missed by his sons: Christopher Kliefoth, Tampa, FL, Peter (Marta) Kliefoth, Tampa, FL; grandchildren: Dylan Smith, AZ, Lindsay, Chelsea, Brandon Kliefoth, Exton, PA, Cara Kliefoth, Atlanta, GA; sister-in-law, Nancy Smith, Dousman, WI; brother-in-law, Owen Wildenberg, Appleton. In addition to his parents, and his loving wife, Lois, he was preceded in death by his son, Richard; two sisters, Esther Stutzman and Iola Grabowski.
Funeral services for Charlie will be held on Monday, May 14, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. at the Wichmann Funeral Home (537 North Superior Street) with Rev. David Lyle officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4 until 8 P.M. and again on Monday from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the service. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to the Lois and Charlie Kliefoth Scholarship Fund c/o University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley Foundation, Inc. 1478 Midway Road, Menasha, WI 54952.
