Charles “Charlie” Drace, age 86, passed away on Friday, September 22, 2023, with loved ones by his side. Though he battled dementia these last few years, he continued to live his life with a joyful and generous spirit. He was born in Neenah, WI to William and Hilda (Starfeldt) Drace on March 19, 1937. He served in the United States Army right out of High School. Charlie had two sons Billy and Timmy Drace with his first wife.
On February 25, 1978, Charlie married the love of his life and Best Friend, Shirley (Bero) Drace. It was at that time he gained 8 Stepchildren. Over his lifetime he enjoyed the many births and precious time spent with many grandchildren, great grandchildren and even some great great grandchildren.
He retired from Gilbert Paper after 35 years of service. He was a kind man, a loyal friend that loved to help others. He enjoyed watching the Brewers, Packers, Bucks and Badgers. As well as rooting for his grandchildren at their games and events. He loved playing cards, Bingo and enjoyed relaxing with a Puzzle. Physically we will all miss you Charlie, but your spirit lives on in each of us.
Charlie is survived by his loving wife Shirley; 8 stepchildren: Robin Konow, Tina Schilleman, Sherri (Bill) Ables, Annette Joachim, David McKinnon, Michelle (Eric) Bauer, Kevin Joachim, and the late Steven Joachim. Additionally, Charlie is survived by one brother, Ken Drace, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in Death by his parents William and Hilda Drace, one brother Jerry Drace, two sisters, Alice OBright and Betty Erdman, a son-in-law Steve Schilleman, a stepson Steven Joachim, and a grandson Blake Huff.
The Family thanks Prairie Homes and the Staff at the House of Joy, Brittney, Candace, Todd, and Robin to name a few. You provided Charlie not only with a safe and loving home this last year but, a joyful extended family. In Charlies last days you were “our rock” supporting the family and Hospice Care nurses and staff. We cannot thank you enough for your great care and compassion.
A memorial service and celebration of life will take place on Friday October 6, 2023, at 11:00am at Wichmann Funeral Home-Tri County Chapel, 1592 S Oneida, Menasha. Friends and family may gather at the funeral home from 10:00am until the start of the service. Charlie will be laid to rest at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Neenah.
