Age 83, passed away peacefully in Appleton on December 18, 2002. She was born in Appleton on July 17, 1919, the daughter of the late Joseph and Cecilia (Islinger) Brumm. On January 12, 1945, she married Robert Burton in Appleton. Robert preceded her in death in 1989. Cecilia was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a member of the Christian Mothers. She took great pride in raising her children and was very proud of them. Cecilia enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Cecilia was very selfless, and her door was always open to her children’s friends. Her family was her life. Further, Cecilia was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards with her friends, in addition to being the family and neighborhood seamstress.
Cecilia is survived by six children: Mary (Gilbert) Low of Appleton, Robert (Julie) Burton of Alaska, Barb Burton of Appleton, Joseph (Ellen) Burton of Milwaukee, Julie (Kevin) Borden of Allentown, PA, and Dan (Robin) Burton of Kimberly; sixteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Jack (Ada) Burton of Kimberly; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Burton of Kaukauna, and many nieces and nephews.
Cecilia is preceded in death by her husband, parents, a son David Burton; a sister, Josephine Stephens; two brothers-in-law George Burton and Ken Stephens, and a sister-in-law, Shirley Solomon.
The funeral liturgy will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 23, 2002, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 222 East Fremont Street, Appleton, with Fr. Robert Karuhn officiating. Friends will be received at the Wichmann Funeral Home on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., and at church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date.
The family wishes to thank Heartland Hospice, Manor Care, and the Adult Day Services at the Thompson Center for their care. A special thank you is also extended to the neighbors on Jackson Street for their support and help over the years.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Cecilia’s name are appreciated.
