Age 89, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, May 28, 2008. Catherine was born on August 23, 1918, in Boscobel, Wisconsin to the late Leo and Frances (Powers) Barrett. She married Stanley Nelson on October 13, 1941 in Forrest County, Mississippi. Catherine was a dedicated homemaker who enjoyed baking, gardening and competitively playing yahtzee and cards for which she had a lifelong love of. Catherine was also a very strong willed person who was known for her sweet tooth and sense of humor. She loved her grandchildren and was happiest with her family around her.

Catherine is lovingly survived by her children: Louise Patterson of Appleton, Stanley “Sandy” (Barbie) Nelson Jr. of Sacramento, California; grandchildren: Harold Patterson Jr, and special friend, Shirley of Sun Prairie, Debra Gaulke of Coconut Creek, Florida, Brenda (John) Slotten of Menasha, Kenneth Patterson of Columbus, Steven (Shelly) Patterson of Kimberly, Stephanie Marks of Menasha, 17 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great- grandchildren; brother, Martin Barrett of Stoughton and sister, Betty Mintz of Sun Prairie.

Catherine is preceded in death by Stanley Nelson Sr, 5 siblings, son-in-law, Harold Patterson Sr, and one great-granddaughter.

Funeral Services for Catherine will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME, TRI-COUNTY CHAPEL, 3212 S. Oneida Street, Menasha with Pastor John Slotten officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, the family has established a memorial fund.

Catherine's family wishes to extend a special thank you to all the staff at Cherry Meadows, Theda Care at Home and Peabody Adult Day Center for all their care and compassion for Catherine.
