Carolyn (Lynn) Ann Brown (nee: Pennings), 77, of Appleton, was welcomed into Jesus’ arms in the early afternoon of September 23 at Thedacare Appleton after a short illness. Lynn was surrounded by every one of her 4 children and their spouses, 12 of her 13 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, cousins, pastors, and friends. Her 13th grandchild was waiting for her next to Jesus as she was welcomed into heaven. A sweet time of worship was experienced, just the way Lynn would have imagined, with her family singing songs of praise around her.
Surviving Lynn are her children Jay (Theresa) Thomas, Dave Brown, Lynda (Steve) VandenBoogart and Robyn (Paul) Nagreen. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Quiana (Peter), Shayna (Jimmy), Jiselle (Zach), Danika, Ashlee (Ben), Bailee, Zander, Nicole (Marco), Brooke, Angie (Drew), Alicia, and the youngest Emanuel. She is also survived by eight brothers and sisters, Mary, Lee (Julie), Dave (Kay), Barb, Fred (Joan), Sandy (Tim), Patti (Steve) and Mark (Ellen). Her best friend Jeffery will also miss her greatly.
Lynn requested that each of her nieces and nephews be mentioned in the obituary, however, she was fortunate enough to have a very large extended family. Special love to Jessi Lynn, her goddaughter. She was also a very special Aunt Lynn to her youngest brother Mark’s children Andrea, Olivia, Kate, Jackson, and Jeffery who were all very special to her.
Going before Lynn were her parents, Wilbert and Dorothy (Hoks) Pennings, her special sister Anne, a brother-in-law Paul, and her precious grandson Chaz, who lived with her for quite some time while he was growing up. She loved him well and she was looking forward to being reunited with him in heaven.
Lynn lived first for the Lord and second for her family. She was the best “Grammy” that could be found anywhere and she touched the lives of all who were blessed to know her.
Lynn worked as a real estate agent while her own children were growing up, but ended her career working for 30 years at St. Elizabeth Hospital in the Behavioral Health department as a counselor for people with addictions. When her first grandchild was born she decided to work part time to dedicate more time to the grandkids that would follow; they arrived quickly in succession. Lynn’s grandchildren all adored her. She was always there to have sleepovers, take trips, give rides on hobocarts while volunteering at Lifest and was the loudest cheerleader at their activities. Her interests were the interests of each grandchild. She was well loved by her 16 great-grandchildren who brought her great joy and loved spending time with their Great-Grammy.
Funeral services for Lynn will be held at 4:00 PM on Sunday, September 30 at THE MISSION CHURCH located at 314 N. Appleton Street, with Pastor John Kieffer officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather at the church on Sunday from 2:00 pm until the hour of the service. Lynn requested an atmosphere of celebration which we will honor. In lieu of flowers we are setting up a memorial to honor her love for children.
