Carolyn J. Corrigall passed away on March 30, 2018, following an unfortunate fall. She was born June 19, 1930, in Oshkosh, WI to Kathryn (Whiting) and J. Carlton Jones. She lived with her mother in Oshkosh through grade school and attended the Rose C. Swartz Training School at Oshkosh State College (now the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh) where she also did her student teaching after college. Carolyn then attended the Out-of-Doors Academy in Siesta Key (Sarasota) FL and Manchester, VT. Carolyn especially enjoyed showing horses and learning horsemanship from members of the Ringling Brothers Circus at the Winter Quarters near her home. She then attended Francis Shimer finishing school in Mount Carol, IL where she and her roommate Alice Goshgarian became lifelong dearest friends. After a year at Lawrence College in Appleton, Carolyn graduated from Oshkosh State College with her teaching degree. She married Don Corrigall on Thanksgiving Day 1953 at the Chapel of the Navel Post-Graduate School in Monterey CA. They spent two years in Honolulu before returning to Appleton. Carolyn was a long-term substitute teacher before becoming a full time wife and mother.
Carolyn dearly loved being surrounded by friends, family and her many dogs. She had a love of telling stories about her childhood as well as humorous stories of her and Don and their many friends. She enjoyed reading, knitting and talking on the phone, and had a knack for quick wit and social commentary. Carolyn loved spending time with her family and dear friends in Spread Eagle, WI at the family cottage they built in 1976.
She is lovingly survived by her son, John (Kim) and their children Jordan and Olivia; and daughter, Susan (Mike) Smith and their children Michael and Emma. She is also survived by her special niece Cathie Jones-Wolf (Patrick) as well as nieces and nephews Curt Jones (Joyce) and Kevin, Knox, Kelly and Kyle Corrigall.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Don, infant daughter, Mary, brother and sister in-law, Donald and Virginia Jones, brother in-law, Knox (Harriet) Corrigall, nephew and niece Kim and Karen Corrigall, and Carl Jones, as well as many dear friends.
Carolyn’s family would especially like to thank Nora Herrling and Ellen Marty for all of their love and support, especially since Don’s passing in 2013.
A private gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers and monetary gifts, contributions in Carolyn’s name can be given to Fox Valley Human Society in Appleton and/or UW-Transplant Center, c/o University of Wisconsin Foundation, Madison, Wisconsin.
