Caroline Jury, 90, of Appleton, WI passed away in her sleep early in the morning of March 24, 2025. She died of natural causes.
Carrie was born on October 7, 1934, to Howard and Hallie (DeWolf) Nussbicker. She lived the majority of her life in Appleton.
Carrie graduated from Appleton High School in 1953. She chose to forego a college education to marry her high school sweetheart, Gib Nabbefeld, and begin their family. Growing up an only child , she wanted to have many children of her own.
Carrie was raised in Bellaire Court, an idyllic oasis in the heart of Appleton. She moved out of the house with her new husband but within a couple of years they purchased the house from her parents, moved back and began raising (and adding to) their lovely family. Carrie lived in that home for more than 87 years.
Carrie loved her neighborhood. The residents were family. She had many very strong relationships with the other moms. Many of the ladies became her “sisters.” In the 1960's many moms stayed home to raise the kids and keep the home fires burning.
Carrie’s home was often the gathering place for the ladies, to relax outdoors, soak up the sun, enjoy an iced tea and socialize. They were each other’s support systems, often watching one another’s children so the moms could attend an appointment or run an errand.
Carrie was very instrumental in creating and executing many of the Bellaire Court traditions, including the magical Christmas Eve event and the block parties for Labor Day and Memorial Day.
After the loss of her second husband, Maurie Jury, Carrie realized it was time to relax and moved into an apartment at The American Grand assisted living facility. She developed new relationships, made some great friends, participated in fun activities and never had to cook another meal.
Carrie was an avid reader. She participated in many book clubs over the years. She continued to learn Spanish well into her 80's. She loved the other members of the class and loved how it exercised her brain. She was very passionate about civil rights and was a lifelong proud Democrat.
She took great pride in keeping herself healthy and in great shape. She participated in slimnastics and yoga at the YMCA. She was always pulled together and very fashionable.
Carrie was a dedicated wife, mother of 6, grandmother of 7 , and great grandmother of 5 with a 6th on its way.
In her mid-40's, Carrie embarked on a career as a substance abuse counselor for CASI.
Carrie and Maurie loved to take little excursions, such as weekends in Door County, Madison or Minneapolis to visit family. After retirement, like many Wisconsinites, they took extended trips to the San Diego area.
Carrie was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Hallie Nussbicker, her infant brother Harrison, her beloved aunts Pauline (Poppy) DeWolf and Edith (Dee Dee) Price, her stepmother Dorothy Nussbicker, beloved husband of 54 years Maurie Jury, great grandsons Taylor Sullivan and Jude Weems, first husband Gilbert Nabbefeld, and surrogate sister Marge Koepke.
Carrie is survived by all 6 of her children, Lisa Nabbefeld (Doug DeMers), Katie Beroukhim, Sandy (Jim) Sullivan, Joe Nabbefeld, Ben (Anna Marie) Nabbefeld and Mary (Sean) Dingeldein. And by grand and great grandchildren: Tanya (John) Embers and their son Arlo; Erich (Amanda) Dingeldein and their four children August, Francis, Freya, and Lou; Alex Dingeldein; Max (Kamilia) Nabbefeld; and Kira (Nik Godsey), Hannah (Chris Lorfeld) and Rachel Sullivan.
Our family wants to extend a heartfelt thank you to the entire staff at American Grand for their devotion and loving care of our mother during the year she was a resident.
She will be deeply missed for her humor, kindness and compassion.
A tribute to her life and a final farewell will be held on Saturday, April 5th, at Wichmann Funeral home, 1592 S Oneida Street, Appleton WI. Visitation begins at 9:30 AM with tributes at 11 AM.
In lieu of flowers, Carrie would love if a donation were made in her name to Planned Parenthood, Habitat for Humanity or the Alzheimer Association.
