Carol Jean Wagner

Carol Jean M. Wagner (née Stephani), 89, of Appleton, WI, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, March 15, 2025.

Carol was born on March 8, 1936, in Black Creek, WI, to Leo and Ethel (Hooyman) Stephani. She grew up on the family farm, where she developed a strong work ethic while helping with daily operations. Carol graduated from Seymour High School in 1954, where she met the love of her life, Duane Wagner.

On June 25, 1960, Carol and Duane were married at St. Mary Catholic Church in Black Creek, beginning a beautiful life together. Throughout their years, Carol was a devoted and steadfast partner as Duane pursued various entrepreneurial ventures. Her unwavering support and strength were central to their journey.

Carol’s greatest joy was her family. She was a loving mother to Dan (Connie) Wagner of Sherwood, WI; Patty (Tom) Halvorson of Neenah, WI; and Debra (Peter) Kessenich of Plymouth, MN. She adored her grandchildren, Aaron Wagner, Connor Halvorson, Brianna Halvorson, Matthew Kessenich, Drew Kessenich, and Isabella Kessenich, cherishing every moment spent with them.

She is also survived by her siblings, Judy Slania, Lynne (Rodney) Gabrielson, Janice (Colin) Turner, and Gary (Susan) Stephani, as well as her sisters-in-law, Mary Stephani and Fay Wagner.

Carol was welcomed into eternal rest by her beloved husband, Duane; her parents, Leo and Ethel; stepmother, Viola Stephani; siblings, Ila Gaynor, Marilyn Stephani, and Janice Ann Stephani; brother, Jack Stephani; and brothers-in-law Les Wagner, Merle Wagner and Jack Gaynor; and sisters-in-law Pearl Wagner and Barb Wagner.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Appleton, WI. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the Mass.

A private family interment will take place at a later time.
