Johnson, Carol Ann (Kohlmetz)

Carol Ann (Kohlmetz) Johnson, age 68, of Appleton, was called to be with her Savior on Sunday, October 19, 2008, after a difficult, courageous, and blessing-filled four-year bout with cancer. Carol was a loving daughter, wife, mother and grandmother, always putting the needs of others in front of her own. She was born on January 27, 1940, in Oconomowoc, WI, to the late Edward and Lenore (Rupnow) Kohlmetz. She graduated from Whitewater High School in 1958 and later attended Whitewater State College, where she earned her teaching degree. It was there that she met her husband Roger, and they were married on June 16, 1962, at St. John's Church in Whitewater. Carol began her career as an elementary school teacher and then chose to devote her time and talents to raising her children and being a homemaker and volunteer. She loved her Lord and was an active member of Mount Olive Ev. Lutheran Church in Appleton for the past 33 years. Carol loved traveling, playing the piano, cooking, and spending time with family and friends at the cottage. She was an incredible grandmother who spent endless hours enjoying time with her grandchildren. Carol also contributed countless amounts of her time, talents and treasures to organizations like Kings' Daughters, Meals on Wheels, and her children's and grandchildren's schools.

Carol is survived by her husband Roger; their sons Todd (Sara) of Appleton and Tim of Texas, and daughter Alissa (Andy) Hutton of Texas, as well as her 8 grandchildren: Brenna, Drew, Quinn, Derek, Emily, Griffin, Ramsey, and Graham; two brothers: Dean (Barb) Kohlmetz of Waukesha, and Jim (Barb) Kohlmetz of DeForest; one niece: Beth Kohlmetz; and three nephews: Jeff (Amanda), Ryan (Heidi), and Tyler Kohlmetz. She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as an infant sister Mary.

Although she will truly be missed by her family and friends, her time with us was a blessing to us all. We take comfort in knowing that she is now safe in her heavenly home and in the loving arms of her Savior.

The family would like to express our sincere thanks to Dr. Thomas Wascher and Dr. Editha Krueger for their unique approach to treatment and the professional and personalized care they administered to extend and maintain the quality of Carol's life. Special thanks also to the staff of ThedaCare at Home Hospice, as well as Bright Star Healthcare, for their excellent care and support.

The Christian funeral service for Carol will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 24, 2008, at MOUNT OLIVE EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 930 E. Florida Ave., Appleton. The Rev. Robert Raasch of Mt. Olive and the Rev. Donald Patterson of Holy Word Ev. Lutheran Church (Austin, TX) will be officiating. The interment will take place in the Appleton Highland Memorial Park cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Wichmann Funeral Home on Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and again at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established in Carol's name and funds may be designated to benefit either Mount Olive Ev. Lutheran Church, the Time of Grace ministry or ThedaCare At Home Hospice.
