Carl A. Thomas

Carl “Cutz” Thomas, age 75, passed away Monday, April 4, 2005, at his home. He was born November 19, 1929, in Appleton, the son of the late Patrick and Martha (Fischer) Thomas. Carl was a 1947 graduate of Appleton High School. After graduating, Carl served in the United States Air Force and Air Force Reserve. He was united in marriage to Dorothy O’Connell on July 8, 1952, in Appleton. Carl retired from the James River Corporation in 1992 after 43 years of service. For the last 12 years, he was employed by the City of Menasha in the Municipal Garage. In his younger years, Carl enjoyed playing softball, pool, and bowling. More recently, Carl enjoyed playing cards and loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; his children, Randall (Christy) Thomas, of Green Bay; Cindy (Pat) Driessen, of Menasha; and Bradley (Kristine) Thomas, of Appleton; his five grandchildren, Laura Thomas, Andrew Thomas, Matthew Driessen, Jennifer Driessen, and Daniel Driessen; and Ginger, our family dog; there are four sisters-in-law, Doris (Hank) Bikowski, of Menasha, Alice Snortum, of Fremont, Claire O’Connell, of Neenah, and Mildred O’Connell, of Appleton; and a special nephew, Mike (Kathy) Tyson, of Milwaukee.

Funeral services for Carl will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 7, 2005, at TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH OF MENASHA, 300 Broad Street, with Rev. Timothy L. Kinne officiating. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Sherwood. Friends may call from 4 – 8 p.m. Wednesday at Wichmann Tri County Chapel, and again from 10:00 a.m. Thursday until the time of services at the church.

The family would also like to express special thanks to Dr. Sodhi and Sandy, Dr. Geller and Jamie, Ruth and the staff of Heartland Hospice Services for their care and compassion during Carl’s illness.
