Carl A. Herrick, Sr.

Age 77, died at home, surrounded by family, after a long battle with cancer on Friday, November 09, 2001. He was born to the late William and Anna Mae (Button) Herrick on August 24, 1924. Carl was a veteran of the United States Navy. During WWII, he served in the Pacific Theater on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Santee. Belonging to organizations such as the American Legion, 40 et 8, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2778, Moose Lodge, and proudly served his community as the National Director of T.P.A. He enjoyed volunteering his time at corn roasts and other fund raising events. He spent his time outdoors: hunting, fishing, and playing with his puppy Mitzi. Carl is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his first wife, Viola T. Herrick; 3 children, Carl Allen (Shirley) Herrick Jr.of Neenah; Jim (Eleanor) Herrick of Isanti, Minnesota; Catherine Anne (Gene) Beede of Adel, Iowa; 2 stepsons, Michael (Jane) Barr of Aurora, Illinois; Patrick G. (Nancy) Barr of Manitowoc; 17 grandchildren, Tim , Jeff, Steve, Jessica, Jill, Rachel, Ben, Jody, Jenni, Jarod, Carissa, Justin, Christopher (who followed in his grandfather’s footsteps by joining the United States Navy), Cheri, Melissa, Ashlee, and Eric; 6 great-grandchildren, Amanda, Amber, Carter, Aaron, Noah, and Ian; 1 brother, William Herrick of Appleton. Carl is preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters, Genevieve Daly, Janette Greening, and Anna Mae Peters; and 1 brother, Garland Herrick. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 12, 2001, at the Wichmann Funeral Home, 537 North Superior St., Appleton, with Fr. Werner officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, November 11, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. The family extends a special thank you to the staff of Theda Care Home Hospice for their wonderful care and help. The children wish to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dorothy for her unconditional love and care of “Dad” and “Grandpa.” A memorial fund is being established.
