Age 77, was taken to his eternal home in the presence of his family on Friday, October 25, 2002. Cal was born June 23, 1925, to the late Harry and Sada (Huse) Armitage in Black Creek. He grew up working on the family farm in Dale and enjoying the outdoors. Cal was especially fond of hunting, fishing and the gentleman’s game, baseball. At age 18, Cal volunteered to serve his country in World War II. Upon his honorable discharge from the United States Army, he returned home to marry the love of his life, Gladys. Together they shared 56 years of marriage. He raised a loving family and continued to enjoy his passion for baseball, playing on many successful teams until he was 51. Cal retired from Giddings and Lewis, Kaukauna in 1987.
He is survived by his devoted wife and best friend, Gladys; his four children, Diane Armitage (Rhonda) of MN; Patricia Foth of Madison; Michael (Debra) Armitage of Menasha; and Karen (Scott) Kohls of AZ; his very special grandchildren, Michael “Mic” and Alec Foth; Eric, Emily and Mallory Armitage; Ben (Sarah) and John Kohls. He will also be missed by four brothers, Harry (Ella) Armitage of FL; Donald (Lois) Armitage of Madison; Merlin (Susan) Armitage of TX; and Wesley (Jean) Armitage of NE; a sister, Eleanor (Vernon) Beschta of Appleton; sister-in-law, Henrietta Armitage of Appleton; brother-in-law, Len Beschta of Appleton; sister- and brother-in-law, Mary and Roy Sieg of Appleton; sister-in-law, Janice Beyersdorf; and many other loving nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Emerson and Rodney Armitage; two sisters, Beatrice Armitage and Olive Beschta; father- and mother-in-law, Henry and Priscilla Beyersdorf; brother- and sister-in-law, Harold and Irene Biebow; and brother-in-law, Henry Beyersdorf, Jr.
The funeral service will be 11:30 AM on Monday, October 28, 2002, at MT. CALVARY EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 208 South Pine Street, Kimberly with Pastor Virgil Hanson officiating. Viewing and visitation will be Monday at CHURCH from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Full military burial rites will be performed before interment at Highland Memorial Park. A memorial is being established in his name.
