Age 82, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, June 29, 2004. He was born in Neenah on March 15, 1922, son of the late Arthur and Marie (Sharp) Hahnen. He graduated from Menasha High School and went on to the serve in the Army from 1939 to 1945. Billy served in the 82nd Airborne as a paratrooper and was decorated with the Silver Star, the Bronze Star, and the Purple Heart. While in the service, he married his high school sweetheart Marjorie Anklam on December 27, 1944, in Buffalo, NY. They enjoyed nearly 60 years of marriage together. Billy was employed by Kimberly-Clark and retired after 42 years.
Billy is survived by his wife, Marjorie; children: Nancy (David) McCormick of Appleton, Arthur (special friend, Linda) of Menasha; grandchildren: Shannon (Terry) Koplitz of Appleton, Shelby (John) Weber of Brown Deer, Heather (Jeff) Gilbert of Menasha and Billy (special friend, Becki) Hahnen of Menasha; great grandchildren: Taylor, Makielyn, Kimbreyan, Lauren, Julianna and Jack. Billy is further survived by his niece Kay (Carlie) Schwebs, other relatives and many friends.
Billy is preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Harold, Arthur and Jack Hahnen; and a sister, Ruth Keefe.
The funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 3, 2004, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 226 Washington Street, Menasha, with Fr. Ian Montgomery officiating. Friends will be received at the church from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Inurnment will take place following the service in the church columbarium.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Theda Care Hospice, and the sixth floor therapists at Theda Clark for their wonderful care. Further, a very special thank you to Heather for her unwavering love and care for her grandpa.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund in Billy's name is being established.
