Age 83, died peacefully on Friday November 19, 2004 in her own room at Brewster Village in Appleton, WI. Beverly Jane was born on November 22, 1920 in West Milton, Ohio, the eldest daughter of Mildred and Robert Swartz. She was a gifted violinist; she was often invited to perform at weddings and enjoyed teaching. She graduated from Milton Union High School in 1939. She married Edwin F. Kain, Jr. in 1940. Together they moved from Ohio to Michigan and then to northern Wisconsin, where they built their own cabin deep in the woods near the Nicolet National Forest. Their only child, April, was born in 1950. Beverly was a loving mother and homemaker and later was employed outside the home, working for the US Forest Service and as a housekeeper. She was a member of the Three Lakes Women’s Club, the PTA, and was a 4-H leader.
In 1965, the family moved to Appleton. Edwin died in 1975. Beverly supported herself for more than 20 years as a housekeeper, finally retiring in 1998, at age 78. Her only grandchild, Elizabeth Jane Breese, was born in 1984. Beth and “Grandma Bev” delighted in each other and shared many happy times.
Beverly was honored as a founding member of Unity Church of Christianity, Appleton, where she was a faithful member for twenty years. She was also active in Eastern Star (Lifetime Member) and Pythian Sisters.
Beverly is survived by her daughter, April Kain-Breese, son-in-law John Breese, and granddaughter Elizabeth, Appleton; her sister Doris (Don) Hissong, St. Petersburg, FL; her niece Teresa (David) Salazar, Orlando, FL; her nephew Robert (Barbara) Hissong, New Port Richey, FL; and her great-niece Alicia (Peter) Culp, Orlando, FL. She is also survived by two special sisters-in-law, Dorothy (Rod) Ingram, Eagle River, WI, and Evelyn (Luke) Bischoff, Oconto Falls, WI.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate Beverly’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 4, 2004 at Unity Church of Christianity, 1800 S. Lawe St., Appleton, WI 54915. Friends will be received at church from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Beverly requested that memorial gifts be directed to the church building fund in her name.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Brewster Village for their unwavering support and love for Beverly during the past 3 ¬Ω years, and especially during her last days. Their devotion to Beverly and her family has been deeply touching.
Beverly will be greatly missed, but her love, her joy in simple things, and her positive attitude will live on in the hearts and minds of all who knew and loved her.
