Betty Culligan, age 85, passed away on Monday, August 18, 2008, following a brief illness. Betty was born in Appleton on May 2, 1923, daughter of the late Levi and Anna (Maass) Hoh. She graduated from Appleton High School, and on June 8, 1946, married Stan Culligan at St. Matthew Ev. Lutheran Church in Appleton. Stan preceded her in death in September of 1982. Betty worked as an advertising clerk at the Post Crescent and retired from Tel-Sec after twenty-six years of service. She was a longtime and faithful member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church in Appleton, and enjoyed reading, flower gardening, bird watching, and activities at the Thomson Community Center.
Betty is survived by three daughters: Patricia (James) Wickesberg of Alpharetta, Georgia; Marcia (Richard) Moore of Pleasant Ridge, Michigan; and Cynthia (Paul) Linder of Hutchinson, Minnesota: eight grandchildren: Jennifer (George) Summers, Matthew Wickesberg, Erin Moore, Colleen Moore, Bridget Moore, Nicole (Andrew) Martens, Cassie (Jeremiah) Piepkorn, and Andrew Linder; and three brand new great-grandsons: Maverik, Hayden, and Bodie. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Stan, sisters Bernice “Bernie” (Sonny) Breitenbach and Marcella “Marcy” (Jake) Abendroth, and brothers Ray (Kitty) Hoh and Bud (Verna) Hoh.
The Christian Funeral for Betty will be held at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at the funeral home chapel with Rev. Ralph C. Waack of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2:00 PM until the hour of the services. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established to benefit Betty's favorite charity.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the entire medical staff of the ICU at St. Elizabeth Hospital, especially to nurse Vicki. Your kindness, care, and compassion will always be remembered by our grateful family.
