Betty Cutler was called home and into the arms of her loving Lord early on Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at the age of 84. She was born in Appleton on September 14, 1923, daughter of the late George and Ida (Kirk) Leinwander. She attended grade school at McKinley Elementary as well as St. Paul Ev. Lutheran in Appleton. Betty graduated from Appleton High School in 1941. For the next twenty-one years, she worked for Wisconsin Michigan Power Company as a supervisor in the accounting department. She “retired” in 1962 in order to raise her young family. During her years with the power company, she belonged to EMBA. On July 19, 1958, Betty married Jim Cutler at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church in Appleton. From the mid 1970's until 1988, the couple owned and operated Cutler Plumbing and Heating, which was based in Neenah/Menasha. Betty was a lifelong, faithful, and active member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church in Appleton.
She also loved sports. Many will remember her involvement with various bowling, softball, and golf leagues, as well as the Appleton Curling Club, and the Badger Bums Campers. Once her daughters were born and followed in her athletic footsteps, she made it a point to be at almost every tennis match, basketball game and track meet they participated in from grade school through college. She was known throughout both the St Paul Falcons and Fox Valley Lutheran Foxes girls' teams for her “big purse” – always having that extra safety pin, rubber band, or band-aid for any of her daughters' teammates. She and Jim worked several years with FVL's Fans of the Foxes and they were honored together by FVL at the Red Smith Banquet in the 1980's. Once the grandchildren came along, she enjoyed watching all their sports endeavors. She also loved to play cards, mostly sheephead, hand 'n' foot and liverpool rummy with her family and friends. During their retirement years, Betty and Jim wintered in South Texas until just a couple years ago, traveling and living in their beloved 5th wheel trailer.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 49 years: Jim Cutler of Appleton; two daughters: Karen (Bill) Drecktrah of Appleton and Casey (Kyle) Korth of Las Vegas; two grandchildren: Dylan Korth and Kendall Korth; a sister-in-law: Joan Dibeneditto of Evansville, Illinois; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her loving sisters and their husbands: Lucille (Clarence) Schroeder, Bernice Leinwander, Geraldine (Richard) LaBore, Pearl (Leonard) Gerrits and her special cousin, Leona Born.
At 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 26, 2008, the Christian Funeral for Betty will be held in the very same church that witnessed her baptism, confirmation, and marriage, ST. PAUL EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 302 North Morrison Street in Appleton. Rev. Kenneth Frey and Ralph Waack will officiate. Entombment will follow at Highland Memorial Park. The family will receive relatives and friends directly at the church on Saturday morning from 9:00 AM until the hour of services at 11:00 AM. Rather than send flowers, the family has suggested that memorials be directed to a fund which is being established in Betty's name.
We especially want to thank the staff at Brewster Village for helping us care for her during the last few weeks of her life.
