Betty G. Nutting

July 13, 1925 — April 10, 2002

Age 76, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 10, 2002 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Appleton, with her family at her side. Her death was caused by complications of congestive heart disease. Betty was born on July 13, 1925 in Appleton, daughter of the late Frank and Louise (Belling) Pogrant. She was a 1944 graduate of the Appleton High School. Betty married Daryl Lee Nutting, Sr. who preceded her in death on June 3, 1992, after forty-eight years of marriage. Betty was well known in the Appleton area as a dance instructor for the Appleton Recreation Department. Many will remember learning their first dance steps from Betty and her friends Marie Mortell and Joan Streck. Betty also worked at Geenen’s, Gloudeman’s and Sonny Breitenbach’s Shoes. Daryl’s career took the family to several different locales. In 1968, the family moved to Fort Payne, Alabama, and relocated to Holland, Michigan. Betty and Daryl always loved the Fox Valley, and eventually returned in the late 1980’s. After Daryl’s death in 1992, Betty found new ways to spend her time, and soon became a frequent visitor at Oneida Bingo and Casino.

Betty is survived by three daughters: Diane (Gary) Gleason of Kaukauna; Nancy (Jim) Elliott of Rockwall, TX; Wendy (Jeff) Nutting-Wilson of Battle Creek, Michigan; five sons: Daryl L (Mary) Nutting, Jr. of Appleton; Bruce (Natalie) Nutting of Appleton; Gary Nutting of Holland, Michigan; Steven (Marlene) Nutting of Douglas, Michigan; Michael (Kathy) Nutting of Ludington, Michigan; thirteen grandchildren: Amy Sterken, Scott Nutting, Bradley (Tracy) Nutting, Tina (Tim) Bennett, Trisha Nutting and her fiancé Greg, Charney Hoover, Jeremy Nutting, Liberty Nutting, Tanner Nutting, Heather Nutting, Thomas and Samuel Elliott; four step-grandchildren: Nicholas Reinink, Nathan Hathaway, Jenny and Corey Gleason; and eight great-grandchildren; Kayla, Zachery, Cal, Garret, Kansas, Rece, Kimberly and Allison.; and a special God-child: Jackie (Tim) Laux of Kaukauna. Betty is also survived by Daryl’s brothers and sisters: Betty (Bob) Vander Linden, Pat (John) Myers, Bonnie Nutting, all of Appleton and Shirley (Bob) Shrimpf of Rhinelander, and, her very special friend and bingo partner Yvonne Deschaine of Appleton. Betty is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Lois, by two brothers Earl (Rosella) Pogrant and Harold (Delores) Pogrant, and by a sister-in-law Joyce (Clarence) Deeg.

Funeral services for Betty will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, April 13, 2002 at the funeral home chapel. Friends may call at the funeral home from Noon on Saturday until the hour of services. Interment will be in Wood National Cemetery.

The Family would like to thank the entire staff at St. Elizabeth Hospital for their wonderful care, with special thanks to Dr. Ram Turlapati, whom Betty adored, and her nurse Tia.
Betty will be recalled by many as a very social woman who loved to entertain her friends and relatives. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
