Age 91, entered into her new eternal life on Thursday, July 18, 2002, at St. Paul Home, Kaukauna. Bernice was born on May 19, 1911, in Spring Valley, Illinois, to the late Joseph and Martha (Jesse) Bodkin. She married Domenic Gestout on November 26, 1936, in Chicago Heights, Illinois; he preceded her in death on May 19, 1998. Bernice was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She took pride in her Lithuanian heritage, enjoyed homemaking and caring for her family. Even though her own education only reached the eighth grade, she was a firm believer in higher education and supported her children in their educational pursuits. Her children and grandchildren especially enjoyed her special Christmas cookies and ethnic foods. Bernice was a member of the Christian Mothers Society

Survivors include her daughter, Bernice (David) DeBoer, Menomonee Falls, WI; her son, Leonard (Mary) Gestout, Appleton; her grandchildren, Christine (Paul) Witt, David (Cheryl) DeBoer, and Justin Gestout; her great grandsons, Zachariah DeBoer and Ethan DeBoer; and her sister-in-law, Kathryn Dryden, Black Creek. She was preceded in death by her brother Charles Bodkin.

Bernice’s new heavenly life will be celebrated in a Funeral Liturgy that will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 21, 2002 at ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH, 410 West Lawrence Street, Appleton, with Fr. John Holly, OFM Cap. officiating. Friends may call directly at the church from 3:30 p.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, a memorial for masses has been established in her name. Bernice’s family would like to extend a sincere thank you to their special friends Ann and Ed Uehlein, and the volunteers and staff at St. Paul Home, especially the nursing staff at Birch Place, for their loving care.
