Bernard P. Stern

April 2, 1920 — July 10, 2004

Formerly of Rhinelander and Sayner, WI, age 84, passed away suddenly on Saturday evening, July 10, 2004 at St Elizabeth Hospital. He was born on April 2, 1920 in Shawano, WI the son of the late William and Barbara (Blick) Stern, Sr. He served his country by enlisting into the United States Navy during W.W.II, serving in the South Pacific Theater. On June 27, 1944 he married Marie T. Tameling in Sayner, WI., and enjoyed 60 loving years together. They owned and operated a grocery store in New London for several years before moving to Rhinelander in 1951. They also owned and operated Rhinelander Decorating in Rhinelander and retired in 1980 when they moved to Sayner, WI. They moved to Appleton in 1997 to be closer to their children. Bernard and Marie were regular attending members of St. Mary Catholic Church in Greenville, and their spiritual life was very important to them.

He is survived by his wife Marie of Appleton, his children: Bernard, Jr. (Mary) Stern of Appleton and their son Jestin (Marn) Stern of Greenville; John T. (Ginger) Stern of Kimberly and their children Michael (fiancée Catherine La Brasca) Stern of Appleton, Nicole Stern and Adam Stern both of Neenah; Theresa "Terri" Stern of Appleton; and Kenneth and Joseph Stern both of Menasha. Bernard is also survived by two brothers: William (Marie) Stern of New London, and David (Betty) Stern of Wisconsin Rapids, two sisters-in-law Carol Stern, and Rose Stern, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by two brothers Louis, and Jim.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Saturday, July 17, 2004 at 11:00 AM at St Mary Catholic Church in Greenville with the Rev. John Zickert officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Town of Plum Lake Cemetery in Sayner, WI. Friends may call at Wichmann Tri-County Chapel, 3212 South Oneida Street in Menasha on Friday from 5-8 PM and on Saturday at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of the Mass. A parish prayer and scripture service will take place at 7:00 PM at the Wichmann Tri-County Chapel with Deacon Dave De Young officiating. A memorial fund is being established.
