Bernard Dejk

March 8, 1924 — September 4, 2006

Bernard Dejk, age 82 passed away Monday, September 4, 2006 at the Appleton Medical Center, following a brief illness. Bernard was born March 8, 1924, son of the late Felix and Agata Dejk. Ben married Annie Elise Dejk on April 1st, 1950 in Butzbach, Germany and she preceded him in death on July 22, 2000. He lived in Europe until 1955 when the family relocated to Canada. In 1962, the family moved to Appleton. For most of the years since that time, Ben had been employed as an installer for Brennan Fraser Roofing and Siding, and in his later years also worked part-time at Riverside Cemetery in Appleton.

Ben is survived by two sons: George (Trish) Lein and Steve (Karen) Dejk; five grandchildren: Stephanie (Scott) Radies, Michael (Dina) Lein, Christina Lein, Thomas Lein and Katherine Lein; five great-grandchildren: Jarrett, Radies, Cal Radies, Trace Lein, and Colton and Megan; a sister: Clara and her family who live in Poland; a brother-in-law Karl and Annie Lein and their son Reiner of Butzbach, Germany; two sisters-in-law: Kate Jurenda of Butzbach, Germany and Marie Smith of Appleton. Other survivors include several nieces and nephews of “Uncle Peanut”: Doris Smith, Linda (Bob) Brown, Bill (Marcy) Smith and Bob (Connie) Smith. Ben was preceded in death by his brother John Dejk, a son Ben Dejk, a brother-in-law Otto Lein, and a special niece Cynthia Lou Smith-Sternhagen.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, September 8, 2006 at the funeral home chapel with Rev. Martin Koeller officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM and again Friday at the funeral home from noon until the hour of the service.

The family would like to thank all of the special nurses and staff at Appleton Medical ICU for their support and care they gave to our father and us during this difficult time.
