Barbara Ann (Fach) Becker

Barbara Becker, 84, passed away on Monday, September 12, 2022. She was born on December 8, 1937, to Francis and Helen (Jurevic) Fach in Steubenville, OH. Barbara was married to William J. Becker on November 21, 1959, at St. Peter Catholic Church, in Steubenville. She graduated from Mount de Chantal Visitation Academy in 1955 as a piano graduate. Barbara earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the College of Steubenville, now the Franciscan University of Steubenville, in 1959. At the time, she was one of very few women with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry in the United States.

Barbara was employed with NCR, in Dayton, OH in the research department from 1959-1962, taught at Fairmont High School in Kettering, OH, from 1962-1963, and taught CCD classes at St. Charles Catholic Church in Kettering from 1965-1970.  After her three children were all in school, Barbara went on to work in accounting and tax preparation with H&R Block from 1975-1978, Marsh & McLennan from 1978-1984, and finally retiring from Nancy’s Tax & Accounting Service in 2000.

Barbara was generous with her time and talents. She volunteered with the Appleton Medical Center Zipper Club, the Toby Roth Congressional campaign, and as an Outagamie County Legal Guardian for David Windorf and Susan Bradly. She was a devoted member of St. Therese Catholic Church, Appleton, where she volunteered on the endowment fund, parish council, finance council and the parish rummage sale. She loved sewing, making pizzelle cookies, and spending time with the cats at Safe Haven Pet Sanctuary.

Barbara is survived by her children: Ann (Darryl Cobb) Becker, of Oakland, CA; Joe Becker, of Kaukauna; and Katie (Adam) Kleinberg, of Oakland, CA; 3 granddaughters: Alice Kleinberg, Dinah Cobb, and Sarah Kleinberg; a brother: Charles Fach of Bloomingdale, OH; other relatives and friends.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two sisters.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am, on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at St. Therese Catholic Church, 213 E. Wisconsin Ave., Appleton. Visitation will be on Tuesday at the church from 10:00 am until the time of the Mass. Inurnment will take place at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are appreciated to Safe Haven Pet Sanctuary.
