Barbara Ann Jochman, nee Fischer, age 85, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family, following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer on Friday, March 24, 2017. Barbara was born in California on July 3, 1931 to the late Raymond and Katherine Fischer. She graduated from Shiocton High School and then went on to work for three years with the FBI in Washington, D.C. She met and soon after married the love of her life, David Jochman, on June 25, 1955. Together they enjoyed 61 joyous years of marriage.
While raising her children, she was employed as a teacher's aide at St. Therese Grade School and at the Appleton Public Library. Barb and Dave volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul in Appleton for 20 years, where they were awarded “volunteer of the year” in 2005. Barb also participated in the Eucharistic Adoration in Appleton, as well as being involved in the Girl Scouts for many years. She always had a good book in her hand and enjoyed traveling. Barb was an avid Wisconsin sports fan and had a great sense of humor. Above all, she loved her family and always put others first.
Barb is survived by her loving husband: David and their five children: Cindy Johnson, Kathleen (Gregg) Burkhardt, Pam (Craig) Kuepper, Jerry Jochman, and Theresa (Jeffrey) Racine; her five grandchildren: Rebecca (Doug) Mogensen, Christopher Johnson, Justin (Courtney) Kuepper, Ryan Kuepper, and Michael Burkhardt; and her great grandchildren: Emery Mogensen and twins, Milo and Noa Kuepper. She is further survived by her two sisters: Joan (Leo) Bernardin, and Karen (Ron) Groth; sisters-in-law: Bonnie Fischer, Esther Kempen, Ruth Brantmeier, and Joyce (Bill) Anderson; as well as many close friends. Barb was preceded in death by her parents, her brother: Tom Fischer; her son-in-law Curt Johnson; and several in-laws.
The Funeral Liturgy for Barbara will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at ST. THERESE PARISH, 213 E Wisconsin Ave, Appleton, with Father Ryan Starks officiating. A time of visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME, 537 N Superior St. Appleton, from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the prayer service at 6:45 p.m., and again on THURSDAY at the CHURCH from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. The family would like to thank St. Elizabeth Hospital Oncology and palliative care teams, Affinity Hospice: especially her nurse Faye, and Tina from St. Therese Parish.
