Arthur W. Cossaboom

Arthur W. Cossaboom, age 95, of the Town of Harrison, died at home, Sunday morning, October 12, 2008. Art was born on November 7, 1912 in Quincy, Massachusetts, son of the late Augustus and Effie Belle (Warrington) Cossaboom. On June 28, 1935, he was united in marriage to Katherine Winfield. She preceded him in death in 1975.

Arthur attended Northeastern University in Boston, MA and worked for most of his career as an Engineer Surveyor for the American Bureau of Shipping. Art was a lifetime member of the NRA and for many years a member of the Appleton Rifle & Pistol Club. He was a founding member of the NRA Whittington Range in Raton, New Mexico and a supporter of the US Olympic Shooting Team. He was an avid CBer and model airplane enthusiast and for many years enjoyed the friendship of the members of the Calumet Flyers. After his retirement and move to Appleton, he spent many hours repairing clocks for friends in the area.

'Pop-Pop' will be remembered (particularly by his grandchildren) as a man of intelligence and varied talents, with many old stories to tell, and a wonderful sense of humor (arriving at the airport for a visit one time in a blond wig and another wearing two different shoes – just to see if you would notice.) They will also (thanks to Pop-Pop) be able to tell you ('Why fire engines are painted red.')

Arthur is survived by his daughter Phyllis Burrows (Dr. Tom), four grandchildren, Anne Louise Burrows-Stubbs (Julian), Sigtuna, Sweden; Michelle Katherine Burrows-Edwards (Ron), Detroit, MI; Dr. Thomas H. Burrows, Jr., New York, NY; Grant Knox Burrows, Scottsdale, AZ; one great-grandson, Julian Thomas Burrows-Stubbs, Sigtuna, Sweden; and one step great-grandson, Joshua Axel Seymour-Stubbs, Lund, Sweden.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Isabel, and his brother, Robert.

Funeral service for Arthur will be held at 7:00 pm, Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at the funeral home, with Reverend Charles Valenti-Hein officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5:30 pm, until the time of the service. Burial will be in George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus, NJ. There will be another service for Arthur at the Barrett Funeral Home, 148 Dean Drive, Tenafly NJ, on Saturday, October 18, 2008, at 11:00 am, with a visitation beginning at 10:00 am. The family requests that no flowers be sent, but memorial funds have been established for the American Cancer Society and the Boy Scouts of America.
