Arthur F. “Art” Seidel
Age 87, of Kimberly, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, January 23, 2008.
Art was born April 1, 1920, in Fenwood, Wis., the son of Frank and Anna (Rauscher) Seidel. Art grew up in Clark County, and was united in marriage to Gretchen Fuchsgruber on September 22, 1941, in Dorchester. He served his country during World War II in the Army Air Corps. Art received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point in 1946, and began teaching math and science at Colby High School, as well as coaching both boys and girls sporting programs there.
In 1955 the Seidels moved to Kimberly, and Art began a new career as a successful businessman in sales. He was the divisional sales manager for Wearever Cookware and Cutco Cutlery. Later, in association with his cousins, Art became the owner and operator of the Farm and Home Supply Store in Chilton, a division of U.S. Oil Company.
Art retired in 1985. He and Gret moved to Woodruff, Wis., and began wintering in Florida, in Dundee.
Art was a member of the American Legion in Minocqua, and was a past post commander of the Legion in Dorchester. He loved playing golf, bowling, and card playing, but more than anything, Art loved people. The Seidels were parishioners of Holy Spirit Parish in Kimberly.
Art is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Gretchen; their eight children, Dr. Barry (Donah) Seidel, Minocqua, Mark Seidel, Fond du Lac, Vicki (Rick) Looze, Fort Atkinson, Mary (Ken) Thiele, Winterhaven, Fla., Kathy (Ted) Van Grinsven and Judy (John) Reider, all of Kimberly, John Seidel, Bonduel, and Tom (Barb) Seidel, Fond du Lac; there are 22 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren; a sister, Eleanor (Ed) Hollmann, Chilton; and two sisters-in-law, Ruth Sauter, Wausau, and Ruth Fuchsgruber, Kimberly.
