Arthur (Butch) Schurer, Jr., Age 79, passed away peacefully on May 22nd, 2022, with his family by his side. He was born in Neenah on February 24th, 1943, son of the late Arthur Schurer, Sr. and Gertrude (Weber) Delfosse. Butch attended St. Mary’s School in Menasha and then entered the armed forces, serving in the United States Navy from 1960 until 1964. He was a member of the Johnston-Blessman Post #38 of the American Legion. Butch was a lifelong dedicated employee of Wisconsin/SCA Tissue Mills. He was an avid gardener and harvested many of his own vegetables every year. He loved to grill year-round and took pride in taking care of his lawn, flowers and plants, always making sure to have the biggest and best roses on the block. He enjoyed golfing, cribbage, having a cold beer with friends and a shake of the day while cheering on the Packers, Badgers and Bucks. Now in heaven with his lord, we will forever miss his compassionate and generous ways. He was truly a kind soul with a heart of gold and would help out anyone, even a stranger, if the need arose.
Butch is survived by his Ex Wife and Special Friend: Karen Angell. His children: Scott Schurer (Carol) of Menasha, Melissa Schurer of Kaukauna, and Wendy Paar of Sussex; His grandchildren: Zachary, Christy, Ashley, Baylee, Maddie, Ella and Chloe; His great grandchildren; Devin, Stella, and James; His sisters: Peggy (Don) Kloepfel of Menasha, Connie (Dave Noe) Gaschler of Menasha, Debbie (Jim) Schwehr of Victor, Montana, Dolly Mischler of Idaho, Joan Zeinhert of Neenah, and sister in law: Tami Schurer of Appleton; and many nieces and nephews, cousins and dear friends. A celebration of life will be held at Michael’s Bar and Grill on July 9th from 1-4:00pm, 1100 Appleton Road in Menasha.
Butch loved spending time with family and friends at Michaels and he would have loved more than anything for one last celebration with everyone. Let’s celebrate the man he was to each of us – remember the good times, laugh and enjoy a day dedicated to him – a man who will forever be missed and never forgotten.
I think of things you used to say
And all that you would do.
At some point, every single day,
My thoughts will turn to you.
To lose you was a bitter wrench,
The pain cut to my core.
I cried until my tears ran out
And then I cried some more.
This wouldn’t be your wish for me
That I’d be ever sad
So I try to remind myself
Of happy times we had.
I know I can’t be with you now
And you can’t be with me
But safe inside my heart you’ll stay;
That’s where you’ll always be.
