Arlen Martin Drews, 88, of Appleton, peacefully went to his heavenly home in the arms of his Savior on Monday, August 4, 2014, surrounded by his family. Arlen was born on June 16, 1926 to Martin and Ella (Tews) Drews in the Town of Winneconne. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church in Winneconne. He was a veteran having served in the US Navy during WWII. He graduated from Winneconne High School in 1947 upon his return from service. On June 3, 1950 he married Arlene Kellerman at St. Paul's. He was employed by Markert & Wesner Electric, Winnebago County, and retired from Miller Electric in 1991. He was a drummer with the Rainbow Valley Dutchmen and sang in the high school, Navy, and church choirs. Arlen enjoyed his log home in the woods and treasured spending time with his family there. He could fix anything and also was a wonderful gardener. During his married life he was a member of Bethany Lutheran and St. Matthew Lutheran Churches, Appleton and Immanuel Lutheran of Waupaca where he faithfully served his Lord in many roles. He was presently a member of Immanuel Lutheran of Greenville. He was a member of American Legion Post #161 and Post #364. He volunteered over 5000 hours at Wisconsin Veterans Home at King.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Arlene Drews, four children; Arlyss (Eric) Troge, Germantown, Wendy (Michael) Malone, Pinehurst, North Carolina, Rollin (Colleen) Drews, Appleton, and Darby (Stan) Hintz, Beaver Dam, nine grandchildren; Sarah (David) Micheel, Samuel (Laurie) Troge, Joel (Michelle Nees) Troge, Adam Malone, Matthew (fiancée Erin Maloney) Drews, Tanya Drews, Kelly Drews, Caleb Hintz and Josiah Hintz, eight great grandchildren; JD, Ruben, Jee Hoon, Hyunjae, Lucy, Lena, and Caleb Micheel and Cohen Troge, and a sister Mildred Marks, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Arlen was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Jeanette Berndt, brothers-in-law, George Berndt and Wayne Marks, and nephews; Donald Marks and Gene Berndt.
The celebration of his Christian life will be held on Sunday, August 10, 2014 at 4:00 PM at IMMANUEL EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, W7265 School Rd., Greenville, with Pastor John Qualmann officiating. A time of visitation will be held on Sunday from 2:00 PM until the time of the services at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, Greenville or Fox Valley Lutheran High School.
