Archie H. Schabo

January 29, 1921 — September 26, 2020

Archie H. Schabo, age 99, passed peacefully into the arms of his Lord with his family by his side on Saturday, September 26, 2020.  He was born in the Town of Center, WI, to George and Martha (Ahrens) Schabo on January 29, 1921.  He was received into God’s Kingdom of Grace through Holy Baptism at St. John Lutheran Church, Town of Center, WI, on March 13, 1921.  Archie continued to learn of his Savior and was confirmed on April 14, 1935 at St. John Lutheran Church, Town of Center, WI.

Archie was a farmer all his life, and was also a mill worker at Kimberly Clark (Midtec), Kimberly, retiring from the mill after 37 years.  He was a member of the Quarter Century Club at Kimberly Clark.  Archie met the love of his life, Dorothy Nowak, at the Cinderella Ballroom.  They were married on May 10, 1947, at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, Appleton, WI. Together they raised their family of four children on their farm. Dorothy passed away on November 6, 2013, after 66 years of marriage.  Archie missed his ‘Dot’ dearly.

Archie and Dot loved taking off in the car for a day trip to wherever the road would lead them.  They also enjoyed numerous bus trips, both local and across the country.  Through the years, Archie enjoyed making what he called his “government” projects – handmade crafts that he would gift to each of his children.  He always had a story to share and a joke to tell and loved watching old TV shows.  He especially enjoyed the times when the grandchildren and great-grandchildren would come for a visit.

Archie felt blessed to be able to spend his entire life on the farm.  He greatly appreciated the efforts of his children that enabled him to do so these past seven years since Dot passed away.  He continued to enjoy trips to specialty farms, the chocolate factory, up north, cruising the Fox River, seeing the sturgeon spawn in the spring, and attending two Daniel O’Donnell concerts, plus much more.  He would also look forward to going for a chocolate malt at his favorite drive-in, broccoli soup at his favorite restaurant, or just a pleasant car ride.

The family would like to thank the pastors at St. Paul Lutheran Church, especially Pastor Ninmer, for visiting Dad and sharing God’s Word with him. (Pastor, despite your affinity for those orange tractors, Dad would always have a big smile on his face when he knew you were coming, and he made sure chocolate chip cookies were waiting for you.)

Archie will be missed by his children: Steven Schabo, Menominee, MI; Susan (Richard) Marwitz, Kearney, MO; Brenda (Jeff) Ings, Appleton, WI; and Gail Schabo, Appleton, WI; his four grandchildren: Lisa Sypniewski, Peter Marwitz, Michael (Corinne) Marwitz, and Matthew Marwitz; and his ten great-grandchildren: Tyler, Makenzie, Madison, Megan, Molly, Arianna, Michael Jr., Mason, Samantha, and Rylan; two sisters: Doris Scheibe and Lois Gerrits, and sister-in-law Elaine Schabo. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Dorothy; brother Norman; sisters Esther and Dorothy; brothers-in-law Gerhardt Scheibe and Eugene Gerrits.

The funeral service for Archie will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 6, 2020, at ST. PAUL EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 302 N. Morrison St., Appleton, WI, with Rev. Kenneth L. Frey officiating.  Friends and family may call at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.  Due to COVID-19, face masks are required and social distancing will be practiced.  Please stay home if you do not feel well.  At 11:00 a.m. the funeral service will be livestreamed at wichmannfuneralhomes.com, viewable at Archie’s obituary page.  A private entombment will take place at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church for the Radio Broadcast fund.  Dad was a faithful listener of the Sunday service radio broadcast these last seven years.
