Age 75, died Monday, February 3, 2003, at Appleton Medical Center after a courageous medical battle. Anthony was born on March 15, 1927, in Oak Park, Illinois to the late Anthony William and Mary (Walsh) Kennedy. Following the death of his father, he was raised by his step-father George Anthony and his mother. Tony served his country during World War II as an electronics technician in the United States Navy and was a graduate of Northwestern University. He married Valerie Joy Lauer on January 29, 1949, in Monmouth, Illinois. Tony was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a deacon at Memorial Presbyterian Church, Appleton. Tony was well known for his love of books and pursuit of knowledge. He was a Professional Engineer in the packaging industry, employed in California, Illinois, Missouri, Washington state, the Philippines, Illinois and Wisconsin. He retired from Hayes Manufacturing in Greenville in 1997. Tony was a member of the Johnston-Blessman American Legion Post and the American Society for Mechanical Engineers (ASME). Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Joy; his daughter-in-law, Susan Kennedy, St. Louis, Missouri; his three grandchildren, Valerie Claire Kennedy, New York City; Colin William Kennedy, College Park, Maryland; and Kathleen Suzanne Kennedy, Burbank, California; his sister, Dorothy (Fred) Kilker, Fullerton, California; his brother, James G. Anthony, Santa Maria, California; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is further survived by his brothers-in-law, Jack (Bernice) Lauer, Parker, Arizona and Arthur (Donna) Lauer, Big River, California. Tony was preceded in death by his sons, Kevin William Kennedy and Craig Arthur Kennedy; his sister, Rose Mary Kennedy; and his in-laws, John and Lillian (Tamm) Lauer. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 8, 2003, at MEMORIAL PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 803 East College Avenue, Appleton, with Rev. Charles Valenti-Hein officiating. Friends may call directly at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in his name.
