Age 69, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 12, 2002 at Appleton Medical Center. He will be deeply missed by his wife Charlotte whom he wed on August 3, 1954 at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Darboy; Mark A. (Debra) of Darboy, Cindy Lou (Rick) DeBruin of Kimberly, David J. (Debra) of Ashippun, Wisconsin, Donald J. of Appleton;and Vicki (Chuck) Sahr of Menasha. He will especially be missed by his beloved grandchildren Christie, Rebecca, Zachary, and Aaron Guckenberger; John, Mac, and Alex Guckenberger; Michael and Michelle Guckenberger; and Natasha and Jacob Sahr. He is also survived by his sisters Evelyn E. Guckenberger, and Mildred (Larry) Kuklinski all of Appleton; his in-laws Ernesta Wysocki of Milwaukee, Greg (Bonnie) Hopfensperger of Brillion, Geneva (John) Hanges of Appleton, Carl (Caroline) Hopfensperger of New Albany, Indiana, Donna (Joe) Bouressa of Green Bay, Jim (Joyce) Hopfensperger of Black Creek, and Sharon Hopfensperger of Menasha.
He was born on September 26, 1932 in Appleton the son of the late Christian and Jennie (Schuh) Guckenberger. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was employed as a Research Engineer at Pecheney (formerly American Can) where he was instrumental in the development of numerous food related packages and patents retiring in 1993. He was 2000 Janet Berry Volunteer of the year sponsored by the Post Crescent. He served on the Marathon Credit Union Board of Directors, and was the current president of the Golden “K” Kiwanis Club. Tony and his family were charter and active members of St. Bernadette Parish. Tony volunteered many hours at the Thompson Community Center, Appleton Medical Center, Salvation Army, and numerous other charities. He and his grandson Michael volunteered many Thanksgivings at the Salvation Army cooking and serving food for the needy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Rita (Andy) Boehnlein, his father and mother-in-law Matt (Lessie) Hopfensperger; his brothers-in-law Edgar, Elwood (Joan), and Matt Hopfensperger; his sisters-in-law Eugenia (John) Hoffman, and Ranetta (Bob) Voigt.
Mass of the Resurrection will be conducted on Thursday, May 16, 2002 at 11:00 AM at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 2331 East Lourdes Drive. Visitation will be on Wednesday at the funeral home from 4-8 PM, and on Thursday at the church from 9:00 AM until the time of the mass. Parish prayer and scripture services will be at 7:30 PM on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.

Dad,
You have taught us many things; too many to list. Here are the things that stick out the most: The importance of moral values, family, friends, work ethic, and dedication. You always said, “money does not bring you happiness, only giving and love will bring you and the people around you happiness. Be proud of your accomplishments and failures and keep your head up.”
We will miss you, but the things you taught us will always shed light on every day of our mortal lives.

Daddy,
You were a very special part of my life. You have taught me so much. Yes, you even learned a few things from me. Whenever the words “my Dad” were spoken, my heart expanded with love and pride. As old as I am, I will still be Daddy’s little girl. I do not know how Rick or I will be able to complete a project without your help, or supervisory skills. Who is going to show me how to warm my bait to catch a “Big Whooper Socker”? Who is going to feel sorry for me that I keep losing at sheepshead? Who is going to take that morning walk or Gator Ride in the North Woods with me? I have so many question like this “Who is going to …”? Everyone tells me to be strong and continue on. How do I do that? I will have to learn all by myself. I hope the memories that flow faster than a flooded river will last forever.
