Annette C. Sloboda passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2004 at Rennes Health Care Center in Appleton. Annette was born November 22, 1921 in Marion, WI to Edward P. and Anne Born Fox (Fuchs). She graduated from Marion High School in 1939 and was salutatorian of her class. Annette graduated from Whitewater State Teachers College in 1943 with a degree in High School Commercial Education. In 1971, she received her Masters Degree from Whitewater.
From 1943-1945, she taught at Kewaunee High School. Annette then taught at Marion High School from 1945-1950. She moved to Appleton in 1950 and was private secretary to the president at the Appleton Wire Works for 3 Years. Then private secretary to the advertising manager at Marathon Corporation. Annette was also private secretary to the secretary treasurer of Home Mutual for 8 years.
She then returned to teaching business education in the Appleton Public Schools in 1966. Annette taught 1 year at Appleton West and 17 years at Appleton East. She retired in 1984.
She married Donald Sloboda on November 5, 1960 and he preceded her in death on March 29, 1994.
She was secretary-treasurer of the Whitewater Alumni Association in the Fox Valley for many years. As a life member of the DAVA, she was instrumental in starting the Women's Auxiliary. Annette was a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma National Sorority and a member of the VFW Auxiliary. She was a life member of the Military Veterans Museum. Annette loved animals and was surrounded by pets all of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
She is survived by loving cousins and dear friends, who were so helpful in her times of need and a foster daughter, LaVerne Riedle. She fondly remembered many of her former students and hoped she gave them a good start in the business world.
Her cremated remains will be buried at the Wisconsin State Veterans Cemetery at King next to her husband. A graveside service will be held on October 8, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. with Chaplain Wayne Schwanke officiating.
