Age 91, passed away on Wednesday, November 21, 2001, at Franciscan Care & Rehab Center. Anne was born on April 19, 1910, in Charlesburg, Calumet County, the daughter of the late Anton Sr. and Catherina (Wettstein) Groeschel. She was married to Peter A. Smith on November 28, 1925, who preceded her in death. Anne married Elmer A. Marvin on December 27, 1943. He also preceded her in death in 1954. She worked at various jobs in her lifetime, finishing her career in sales at downtown Walgreen’s and retiring from H.C. Prange Co. Anne loved art, and spent many hours doing oil paintings; and after retirement, crocheting afghans for family and friends. When she was younger, she enjoyed fishing, gardening, dancing and always conversation with friends. Anne is a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and past member of the Appleton Gallery of Arts. She is survived by her daughter, Betty J. (Cleon) Egan, Kaukauna; a son, Charles R. (Shirley) Smith, Appleton; stepson, William (Mary) Marvin, Kimberly; one sister, Johanna (Jane) Krug, Fond Du Lac; 2 sisters-in-law, Elsie Nadler, New Holstein and Evelyn Groeschel, Malone; 9 grandchildren, David Egan, Lake Mills; Daniel Egan, Madison; Patricia (Mark) Manske, Appleton; Carrie (Michael) Gorges, Kaukauna; Sharon (Martin) Hintz, Appleton; Barbara Smith, Oshkosh; Susan (William) Emmers, Appleton; Kathleen (James) Riske, Appleton and Daniel Smith, Madison; 3 step-grandchildren, Geri (Larry) Harkness, Darboy; Carol (David) Appleton, Kaukauna; Laurie Reoyo, Kimberly; and 15 great-grandchildren. Anne was preceded in death by 4 sisters, 7 brothers and 2 great-grandchildren. The Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, November 24, 2001, at ST. MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 312 South State Street, Appleton, with Fr. Michael K. O’Rourke officiating. Entombment will be held at Highland Memorial Park. Friends will be received at the church on Saturday, November 24, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staff at Franciscan Care Center, especially unit 2, for their loving care of Anne.
